I always assumed that daytime TV in France was an endless uninterrupted episode of Le Juste Prix on every channel.

Left my phone for 10 seconds in the hands of my 18-month old son and next thing I know he was trying to buy a group (?) subscription to @jonnelledge.bsky.social ‘s substack.
Did I give birth to someone who will be lecturing me about the 1965 map of London boroughs in ten years from now?

Me for the past few months: Bluesky is m pleasantly free of antisemitism.
Me for the past two days: interesting how no one has anything to say about Manchester apart from fellow Jews.
Me looking at the replies to @nadinebh.bsky.social ‘s threads on antisemitism: oooh this is where everyone is 🤮

And tonight as I left synagogue we were instructed to go straight home, not to linger around the building and under no circumstances to leave as a group. I am heartbroken, tired and angry.

Last night after we left synagogue, my partner, a friend, and I were discussing what we knew would be an inevitable attack. We were saying “we know there will be an attack. We just don’t know where.” Got this text from my partner this morning.

Great post and funny to compare it to other languages. In French you’d still use Proche Orient (Near East) to talk about Israel/Palestine (anyone waking up from comma would be ok)
In Hebrew both terms exist but like in English near east disappeared and Middle East has been accepted as “our location”

You are probably right that he might well want to stand on the sideline but I struggle to imagine a scenario that doesn’t end up with him becoming PM if Labour carries on the way it does.

That has been one of the novel sensory experiences of parenting. I never had someone putting their mouth 2 centimetres from my face and copiously coughing at me until I had my son. Or putting their fingers up my nose. The things you don’t think about until you reach toddler parenting phase.

Brigitte Macron will be showing in court evidence that she’s not a trans woman in her libel lawsuit against the American far right whack jobs who claim otherwise. I understand the desire to go to court over this but gosh I wish she didn’t have to do this.

I know it’s wrong to obsess over every little thing Trump says but his speech in which he refers to the left as “the Marxist, the anarchists, the agitators, the looters and people who in many instances have no idea what they’re doing” is such a gift. Thanks for making the left sexy again DJT.

‘Our hallway’s big enough to play football in!’ The council housing that feels like a holiday resort Boasting two-sink kitchens, London’s Tower Court is tailored for the Haredi Jewish community – but its generous proportions and outside space for religious observance are a treat for all residents

Lovely piece about a new council estate that has been very thoughtful designed for the Haredim community.
It always strikes me in Stamford Hill how they manage to make great use of public space in an area that’s frankly horrendous from an urbanisation view point

Encryption as a Feminist Issue — A Policy Brief Why protecting encryption is vital for survivors, activists, and gender justice worldwide.

I have been doing quite a bit of work lately on encryption lately and why it matters as a feminist issue and it’s for many reasons a joyous thing to work on. Here’s a not particularly joyous policy brief on the issue

Is there something you’d recommend replacing the chicken with for vegetarians who want to try the recipe? (Tofu, portobello mushrooms, vegan “meat”)

Among college graduates ages 22 to 27, computer science and computer
engineering majors are facing some of the highest unemployment rates, 6.1 percent and 7.5 percent respectively, according to a report from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. That is more than double the unemployment rate among recent biology and art history graduates, which is just 3 percent.

As a theatre student who found herself doing tech policy. I am very much here for the era of art history ruling over us.

I didn’t miss needing a ticket worth hundreds of pounds to get in or not being able to join in because it’s controlled by a bunch of big corps that have absolutely no interest in LGBT rights.
It reminded me of the Paris Pride events of my childhood and was so happy to take my son there.

I miss many things about London but Pride isn’t one of them. I was so impressed by the Nuremberg pride this weekend. Dozens of thousands of people marching (it didn’t feel small town-ish or provincial, felt like a proper city Pride), a political event, while being still a fun lighthearted one.

Yeah don’t get me wrong I don’t think this is the right answer at all. I just think it reflects a legit issue in lack of faith in charities operating there.

To be fair I think part of the problem is that I am not sure there are that many obviously better ways. A lot of the charities operating there are at the mercy of Hamas. So I understand the desire to want to send your money straight to those trying to feed their families.

Really fascinating developments in the “other place”. The French far right is losing their shit because Grok is going “woke” and comparing their new guru (billionaire Pierre-Édouard Sterin) to Hitler and saying policies that favour white families over non-white ones are unethical.

Don’t you get offended by the number of questions about France when you have left as a teenager and I am guessing you have almost lived longer here than there?
