Doing so is about to make him the Mayor of the unofficial capitol of the world.

Refusing to win power out of fear of moderation helps fascists.

After a few days in New York City, I’m beginning to feel that cars should not be sold with horns.

Exiting Penn station from the LIRR level up to 7th Avenue has become the most dramatic way to arrive into New York City.

My 2008 example: Activists today would rip Obama to shreds for saying he didn’t believe in gay marriage, etc.

We progressives knew he was lying. But swing voters liked what he said, & elected him. And him being in power helped queer people a lot more than him refusing to moderate and then losing.

If some Dems have to revert just to circa *2012* to win, they must do so.

But more than that, reverse polarizing ourselves into holding onto unpopular positions (because our biggest concern is being perceived as “hippie punching”) is a dynamic that plays right into Trump’s ugly hands.

We defeat fascism by winning, even if we have to swallow our pride a little.

This rhetoric is beyond hyperbolic.

Moderating on, say, that issue, to get the party back to 2015, when the public was largely on their side (& towards the position of most European progressive parties), isn’t “shitting on” anyone.

Like, it genuinely sucks that the median voter is not more angry at this Trumpy fascism. It sucks said voters don’t share all my progressive positions.

But if Dems have to visibly moderate on a few issues, where many US libs are to the left of even European progressive parties, to win… then okay!

It’s not an intellectually consistent position to say “We must do *anything* to stop the growing MAGA Fascism… except moderate on a couple issues where the left-wing position remains massively unpopular with normie voters.”

Refusing to do so comes from a position of quiet privilege.

I would love to live in the fictional reality where the shoplifting problem was completely made up, and that the stores in certain cities have locked up so many items just because (?), and it’s also a lie to say that the left doesn’t believe actual shoplifters should be prosecuted.
