Today, as has happened several times, Zohran Mamdani is being yelled at by the activist left for moderating on certain issues, even if just rhetorically.
Doing so is about to make him the Mayor of the unofficial capitol of the world.
Refusing to win power out of fear of moderation helps fascists.

Look, you believed the people (such as The New York Times and NPR and Politico) who claimed Harris was exaggerating what Trump would do and you believed Trump's lies.
Seems like you actually did vote for this.

My 2008 example: Activists today would rip Obama to shreds for saying he didnβt believe in gay marriage, etc.
We progressives knew he was lying. But swing voters liked what he said, & elected him. And him being in power helped queer people a lot more than him refusing to moderate and then losing.

I risk nothing? To use lefty parlance, you are a cishet man lecturing a queer person with a trans husband. I have a lot more to lose under fascism than you. My husband can get arrested for using a menβs room in some states!
If some Dems have to revert just to circa *2012* to win, they must do so.
06.10.2025 20:17 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0
But more than that, reverse polarizing ourselves into holding onto unpopular positions (because our biggest concern is being perceived as βhippie punchingβ) is a dynamic that plays right into Trumpβs ugly hands.
We defeat fascism by winning, even if we have to swallow our pride a little.
06.10.2025 20:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
This rhetoric is beyond hyperbolic.
Moderating on, say, that issue, to get the party back to 2015, when the public was largely on their side (& towards the position of most European progressive parties), isnβt βshitting onβ anyone.
No more than Obama shit on gays by not endorsing marriage in 2008
06.10.2025 19:58 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Like, it genuinely sucks that the median voter is not more angry at this Trumpy fascism. It sucks said voters donβt share all my progressive positions.
But if Dems have to visibly moderate on a few issues, where many US libs are to the left of even European progressive parties, to win⦠then okay!
06.10.2025 19:12 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Itβs not an intellectually consistent position to say βWe must do *anything* to stop the growing MAGA Fascismβ¦ except moderate on a couple issues where the left-wing position remains massively unpopular with normie voters.β
Refusing to do so comes from a position of quiet privilege.

Recorded a 50 minute timelapse of the new Flatbush Ave center running bus lanes this first rush hour, as DOT crews are still installing signage and stuff.
So far, it works! Drivers generally obey it and buses are clearly sped up. And donβt miss that ambulance bypassing traffic at the 6 second mark!

Bidenβs biggest mistake was taking down the foot soldiers of 1/6/21, not the Elite who funded, inspired, and lead the attack on US. If/when we restore rule-of-law & democracy, we need to hold the Elite whose collaboration made this possible: including all of those who bribed the Trump Family.

The reason this theory works is because most of our elites and leaders have no real views or opinions, but merely adopt those that they believe will earn them approval. And now theyβre all seeking approval on the Internet, where everyone really is 12, or has the mental capacity of a 12-year-old

I would love to live in the fictional reality where the shoplifting problem was completely made up, and that the stores in certain cities have locked up so many items just because (?), and itβs also a lie to say that the left doesnβt believe actual shoplifters should be prosecuted.

This sounds like insane hyperbole to most people, but itβs very hard to read the presidents actual words, and not come to this terrifying conclusion.
The only question ow is what percentage of the military will go along with orders they know to be illegal.

I could answer that question, and you would dismiss it, as do so many people here who complain about stuff being locked up in a few cities, but lose their minds when asked to talk about the reason why.
A lot of folks here are as much bad-faith debaters as the MAGA lunatics they love to hate.
