2025 is dead, welcome 2026, long may you reign (or at least for a year). What is your goal for gaming in 2026? My own is to write at least 1 new one shot adventure per month, to keep exiting stories coming at my table.

GM Tip: Establish clear stakes before big decisions. Players are more engaged when they understand what’s on the line, even if success and failure look different than expected.

Writing my next one shot, it looks like it will be a murder mystery, and yet even for a one shot, when I sit down to write out what is going to happen the very first thing I find myself doing is world building, writing out all the factions in the city and motivations for all the characters...

I mean they do, and yet my tables still look like this most of the time, and it makes me happy...

If they also got Joseph Quinn back, reminding everyone it was just a game and Eddie didn't really die, I might still be ok with that.

I know I've been quiet for a few days, I was just finishing off running the last few one-shot adventures for the year, and I've sat down to write up the one shot I have in mind to run for at least the first part of January. Wishing you all happy holidays, and may all your adventures be epic.

Favourite snack is a hard call, it should be something absolutely not dusted with cheese, or that will smudge fingerprints all over a character sheet, I'm going to go with Starbursts, they are also a reasonable size to use in place of minis for baddies, that the players can eat when they kill.

5 x 10cm high bottles with cork stoppers partially filled with red resin and varying numbers of red d4 dice to be used as health potion rollers in D&D.

WIP: #DnD health potion rollers I'm making. Still need to wrap some twine around the top, add a sticker to the side with the details for each health potion, and add a wax seal to the stoppers.

In return for the DM allowing me to rework that aspect of the character, I baked treats for the sessions, and everyone got to try some of my own baking magic. I think my favourite thing I brought were corn bread muffins with a small amount of maple extract added.. they were so good...

My alchemist artificer was reflavoured so instead of potions, she made baked goods with magical properties, it was a blast.

Always play what speaks to you. I've heard over and over again that Alchemist Artificers are bad, but I had a blast doing one, and I'm very much looking forward to a Cartographer when I play next. If Ranger is your jam, play the heck out of it.

You know, it is kind of funny. Since most of us use either standard array or else point buy, most players have at least 1 dump stat for their characters. Every single stat gets picked by someone to be their dump stat, except the one that was a canonical dump stat. Raistlin's Con. #DnD #ttrpg #D&D

Everything that exists (or existed) IRL exists in most RPGs too. Now, depending on the tone of the game it may not be portrayed, or it may be transformed in some way to suit the setting, but it'll be there - at least theoretically.

For a campaign I was playing in last year I played an Artificer Alchemist reflavoured so that her magics were through her baked goods, and then I proceeded to bring something I baked to each session for the rest of the group to enjoy.

Considering how many people unironically get annoyed by "the real treasure is the friends we met along the way" you are probably right about that.

You've got this. As for research to "make sure you can GM it right" my philosophy is tell a cool story together and try to make it as fun as possible for your players and you can't go wrong.

I used to keep a notebook with me for expressly this purpose, these days however I just have a google doc I can access from my phone so I never miss jotting down a name I hear or think of that sounds cool.

It feels like what the OP is upset about is that theatre kids have stormed the market and been relentless inclusive and will not stand for bigotry and exclusion as a way of life. I have also been playing for 34 years now and have never seen anyone putting up barriers.
