It isn't "someone innocently misidentifying" but rather the habit Americans have of assuming everyone is talking about the US. It gets exhausting explaining this to them in our mentions. Often they then double down that it doesn't matter or chastise person for not specifying location in every post.

All the more reason not to assume everyone is on the US.

I mean, it is now but it's more a symptom of the commercialisation of everything and not specific to holidays. When I was a kid it was homemade costumes and big get togethers, a fun time that celebrates the last of summer harvest and the beginning of darkening days. Holidays are fun and human.

There could be any number of reasons. I love it but I grew up in the US. Halloween is in Spring here so it doesn't make seasonal sense, people didn't grow up with it, to some people it feels like imported American cultural commercialism, there's lots of reasons people dislike it. 🤷🏻‍♀️
