It was a much less organic experience than it should be. I don't know if this choice was the convention center's or the MDS, but either way I think if you do a survey, the majority would prefer the traditional poster experience. Amazing conference nevertheless! 3/3

The electronic format limits/virtually eliminates the interaction between the presenters and those who are viewing the posters which is essential for the networking aspect and also for the scientific discussion of the material. Also, the sound on the phone was often delayed and cutting off. 2/3

Great sessions in @movedisorder.bsky.social congress in #Honolulu with outstanding speakers and excellent organization. I must say, however, that the poster session is a disaster. The traditional way works much better. 1/3

I think a clear question, solid methods & solid argument advance science most regardless of the story completeness. What is harming science is pushing scientists to publish frequently or in high IF journals leading to "manipulating/inflating" the question, methods, and argument, and hiding truth.

To my knowledge, there was no discussion or mention to cognitive impairment or dementia in the context of gabapentin/pregabalin in the recent RLS guidelines. I think this is something I'm going to discuss with patients going forward. 5/5

Nevertheless, this is an important study that makes us think about chronic gabapentin use. In restless leg syndrome, for example, recent guidelines bumped gabapentin & pregabalin up to the first-line treatment spot because of augmentation & other side effects associated with dopamine agonists. 4/5

Given this and the inflammation and hemodynamic and biochemical changes associated with surgery and anesthesia, it is plausible that surgery in younger patients is also a risk for cognitive decline later in life. Thus, I would have loved to see surgery included in the propensity matching. 3/5

The authors include multiple categories of medications and chronic diseases known to contribute to dementia risk, but not surgery which we know from studies and clinical practice that it increases the risk for delirium and long-term cognitive decline in the elderly. 2/5

Risk of dementia following gabapentin prescription in chronic low back pain patients
Introduction Gabapentin is widely used to treat chronic pain, but its association with cognitive decline and dementia remains unclear. This study examined whether gabapentin prescription is associated...
This is an important study that agrees with previous reports suggesting gabapentin & pregabalin use as a risk factor for cognitive impairment and dementia. My only major concern is that spinal and orthopedic surgery or surgery in general was not used in the propensity score matching procedure. 1/5

Update on the Treatment of Autonomic Disorders - Current Treatment Options in Neurology
Purposeof Review Autonomic disorders disrupt homeostasis and cause symptoms such as orthostatic hypotension, urinary urgency, bladder overfilling, sexual dysfunction, constipation, and gastroparesis. ...
Our review 'Update on the Treatment of Autonomic Disorders' just got published. We discuss non-pharmacological, pharmacological, and neuromodulatory and device options for autonomic disorders in a very clinic-oriented way. This is an important topic for neurologists and primary care physicians.

Mind-blowing case of the day. This guy w/ Parkinson's has a left leg amputation. Later he develops phantom dystonia in the region of the missing limb? Eid, Rodrigo, and Norris teach us about the phenomenon through a case they published in the Movement Disorders Clinical Practice Journal.

In my opinion, these aspects should be left to society to organize (NOT to corporations OR governments). Of course, a sort of supervisory power exercised by the government is always needed, but that should be kept to a minimum. 2/2

Like most, Iโm worried about the course of action the new US administration is taking towards scientific activity and healthcare. However, I donโt think the appropriate long-term response is to ensure administrations take a different course in the future. 1/2

The reduced striatal & normal cortical metabolism (FDG PET) make neurodegenerative diseases much less likely and the negative Aฮฒ PET virtually excludes Alzheimer disease in particular, thus pointing to the effect of isolated vascular changes in the basal ganglia on cognition.
