I believe it’s because politics has largely merged with culture where they used to overlap a lot less. Witness trump - his fame wasn’t due to him being a politician. He appealed to people by tugging on culture wars. And he governs via 5% bread and 95% circuses. This is not your father’s politics.

Agree. And IMHO it’s a good thing he’s more visible. The more reasonable people who see how unhinged he is, the more they will question this administration’s sanity (with the usual caveats about the cultists not caring or even liking it).

I think we’re getting to a place where fatigue becomes more potent than outrage. My guess is that even his base will tire of this reality show. I believe people will tire of the constant demand from the administration that we actively hate our fellow Americans.

Not sure why pundits feel the need to be on constant blast. He says a lot of smart, on target stuff. Then he says a lot of stuff that is divorced from reality IMHO. I hope we all do what the Trump cultists don’t do: think critically and not buy into anyone/reject anyone hook line and sinker.

I’m not going to “both sides” this bc the devaluation of education is a problem for all of us. The US is ranked 31st in the world for education (+ or _, dep. on source & method). This post isn’t about blame only because that’s a different discussion. I’m sharing info about the nature of the problem.

Unfortunately, it seems our undereducated populace is going to have to learn those lessons by experience. And those of us who did learn those lessons from reading about them and warning of them are going down in the same ship.

Kirk was pretty adept at code switching. He could speak at length about the state of youth vis a vis the GOP without dropping into his hate schtick. Wondering if the quaint concept of “ground rules” (be factual, no ad hominem crap, etc) could help colleges welcome debate from people like Kirk.

I did, and yes, a reasonable person could have the opinion that they seemed scripted. But that means nothing. The only thing that matters are verifiable facts. If they are authenticated technically, and if the roommate confirms they’re real, that’s about as close as we’re going to get to the truth.

I had a similar experience with a friend who saw him on Newsom’s pod and concluded “he made a lot of sense.”

Kirk’s talent was in understanding that young people have no good political alternative and exploiting that to gain power by saying whatever he had to. Just another fast talking con man.
