His meatball recipe in his cookbook is my ride or die. The adaptation to a meatloaf on his Patreon is a household staple now.

Leftover Turkey Green Enchiladas (Crispy-Edge Style) | J. Kenji Lopez-Alt Get more from J. Kenji Lopez-Alt on Patreon

Working on leftovers, and this was a hit - although don't sauce the tops much at all if you want crisp. What should I do next? frienji.kenjilopezalt.com/posts/leftov...

This is so good. But I want to see more exampled of 'bespoke' models versus a 'default' model to help solidify the comparison - and how frequently someone in our field would go the bespoke route. I've never gotten a clear definition on 'bespoke'... is that most of what I do? Or none?

Pen and ink drawing of a scattering of small 5 to 10 armed star-shaped animals on a jagged rock surface.

Handwritten text reads: #InsertAnInvert 44: Blobfest (Blobbageddon) Star Tunicate (Botryllus schlosseri)

This colonial tunicate has individual zooids (~1-3 mm) that fan outwards from a central point like the arms of a star. Human transport (on ships, for example) has given this tiny organism a nearly cosmopolitan distribution.

Sounds lik Bloc up here. My wife and I would make up stories about how they’d just planted the wheat for the breakfast sandwiches, so it might take a bit.

It’s because they rejected the Podokesaurus with a cup of dunks. The entire state knew that was the right choice.

I’m guessing once the actual data comes out, time for another how-not-to-do-science example for the #causalinference portion of my biostats class.

What a loss. He was incredibly kind to me as a postdoc as I wrote extensions to his {sem} package and even folded them in, putting me on as a coauthor on a chapter. An important milestone in my career. And he didn’t need to do that - but went out of his way.

Again, as with all the other federal budget cuts that are incinerating 20-25% of the funding & the entire budget model of every R1 university in 🇺🇸, this is a five-alarm emergency that requires immediate, loud, collective condemnation by our university presidents. Total 🦗 as it’s all being gutted.

The revenge of the Marshmallow Experiment

This seems like it might be a clean confirmation of the theory that 'irrational' preference reversals in temporal choice problems are due to marginalising over socially-calibrated uncertainty about whether the later event will actually occur.
