I Want to Speak in My Sovereign Tongue: An Interview with Lav Diaz on Magellan | In Review Online
A new interview with filmmaker Lav Diaz, director of Magellan, for film review site In Review Online.
I talked to Lav Diaz about Donald Trump, anti-colonial filmmaking, his course-correcting depiction of Enrique of Malacca (a man enslaved by Magellan), his political reasoning for using translators while on the press circuit, the Wakwak connection between Norte and Magellan, and much more.

๐ณ๏ธ Bronx Teacher Launches NY-15 Campaign to Unseat Ritchie Torres
Andre Easton, a public-school English teacher in the South Bronx and father of three, announced his run for Congress in New Yorkโs 15th District (NY-15) in late October. He describes himself as a socialist running as an independent, focused on housing justice, workersโ rights, and opposition to corporate and pro-Israel donor influence in politics.
Eastonโs campaign enters one of the countryโs more densely populated and poorest districts, where incumbent Ritchie Torres (D) faces intense criticism from the left, particularly for his support for Israelโs genocide. Former state assemblyman Michael Blake is also running in the Democratic primary, while Jose Vega joins Easton among independent challengers.
โค NY-15 covers much of the South Bronx, one of Americaโs poorest urban districts, where housing insecurity and rent burdens dominate local politics. Eastonโs platform calls for new public housing and rent capped at 20% of income โ and heโs made Palestine a central issue in recent interviews and videos, like below: ๐๐ต๐ธ
Andre Easton
@AndreEastonBX
As a father, a teacher, and someone raised by Jamaican immigrants, Iโve always felt connected to the Palestinian struggle for freedom.
My campaign to unseat Ritchie Torres in NY-15 goes beyond my disdain for organizations like AIPAC.
We need to recognize the humanity of everyone whoโs been held back by the system, from the Bronx, to Palestine, to the entire world.

Alexandra Kollontai masterminded International Women's Day as a Soviet holiday with the support of Vladimir Lenin.
Male revolutionaries, including Lenin, Trotsky, Mao, Sankara, etc. have all openly recognized the fundamental importance of women's involvement in the success of their movements.
