Retired finance lawyer (acq fin, workouts). Then in my 50s retrained as a primary school teacher-quite fascinating-now retired from that. Wife of Jonathan. Live in Kent. Please no DMs.

03.12.2025 22:48 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A tweet from Captain Mark Kelly criticizing Pete Hegseth. Kelly writes that Hegseth is threatening to court-martial him for comments he originally made nine years earlier, and says Hegseth now spends his time trying to please Donald Trump. Below the tweet is a still image from a video showing Pete Hegseth on stage in a white shirt and pink tie. The caption on the video reads โwar crimes.โ
Sen. Kelly with the receipts and the dunk.

03.12.2025 19:25 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Important: WaPo is doubling down on its reporting on Trump's bombings, asserting expressly that the second strike was ordered "when" the two survivors were "detected."
Hegseth is suggesting he didn't see the survivors, but the question remains: Were they visible, or not? Time to see the video.

03.12.2025 12:45 โ ๐ 55 ๐ 6 ๐ฌ 4 ๐ 0Truly shocking that Rachel Reeves had the audacity to call herself the U14 girls chess champions when she won the U14 girls chess championship but some bloke thought she was talking about something else.

And the quality of produce has really declined in the UK IMHO, as well as the quality of butchering etc. I don't see how people get by with a "weekly shop" anymore-stuff goes off too quickly. Inflation + declining quality is a problem with no apparent solution in sight.

02.12.2025 19:21 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I wonder if it's time to retire the role of "political editor" altogether
Return most of the coverage to the Economics Editor, the Health Editor, the Home Affairs team & so on.
Leave the "who-said-what-to-whom" & "what-does-it-mean-for-the-polls" to others. The BBC doesn't need to foreground this.

01.12.2025 11:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0But then I don't understand the need to get creative to encourage people to work especially if they've saved for the purpose of retiring when they still may be able to enjoy retirement.
01.12.2025 11:09 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I think the French believe that retirement is 2-phased: your 60s when you can still enjoy retirement (travel, grand-kids) & later years when health conditions may prevent a lot of activities (eg, renting a car abroad over a certain age, travel insurance costs). So if you can manage, why not retire?
