I wonder how many billions will be invested into this new LNG terminal, and how that will be justified vs all the things classified as "too expensive"

I did something similar in my lower back when standing at the sink in the bathroom. I had to use crutches to move around the house for ~10 days.

I now have a random tendon problem in a thumb. Growing old is fun, by which I mean not at all.

Could you clarify that "refuse to do politics in evidence-based ways" part please, as I'm not quite sure what you mean. Are you referring to some of the naive behaviour like with Benjamin Doyle's social media, or not fully vetting candidates like Darleen Tana?

Meanwhile, in the Weekend Post, Luke Malpass situated the failure within a broader political pattern, arguing that Labour’s mishandling of Three Waters squandered a workable solution, while National’s rate-capping policy will only exacerbate the under-investment problem. Together, he said, these choices have left councils and central government poorly equipped to deal with ageing assets whose costs are rising faster than inflation.

Ah yes, the Moa Point problem is the fault of both Labour and National... right? Malpass does keep skewing views in favour of National. #nzpol

Part of Taupō high school β€˜completely destroyed’.

Remember: firefighters have been reporting these equipment failures almost daily and #NZ homes and businesses have burned down over the last year, while ACT and Nat Ministers downplayed the crisis #nzpol

National posted an ad comparing the highest inflation under Labour (7.3% in 2022) vs 3.1% today. They forgot to mention that this is up from 2.2% in 2024, that inflation was high everywhere in 2022, and that Labour had lower inflation for their first 4 years

Blueskyese and Xian share an obvious common root as both being Twitteric languages, the difference is that after the split Xian became a hybrid Twitteric/Channer-linkedin tongue, while Blueskyese changed less overall but did pick up some tumbleric and redditor loanwords

MSD have been delaying their December benefits data release due to data processing issues but they shared headline numbers yesterday. If the data is correct, this is a huuuge increase. We now have nearly 1 in 7 adults on a working age benefit. Link in ALT. (🧡 1/n)

Surprising no one, private companies running public infrastructure where there is no (or limited) competition results in the worst viable operation for the highest profit. For profit companies cannot operate effectively without competitive markets

A quick table comparing NZ political poll results since the last election. Calculate the average result for a party for a month, then average the variation.

eg: RM skews away from Nat/Lab and towards minor parties (+ is above ave, - below)

This is your friendly reminder that the party that thinks everyone should have "equal rights" doesn't think any new laws about modern slavery are required, and want to remove laws protecting workers rights.

Their "equal rights" are basically no rights

As 2 of NZ’s largest cities Christchurch/Wellington face critical wastewater infrastructure crises (& National climate risk)

A publisher who lays off a reporter whose pen is freezing because she's covering a frigid war zone while dodging missiles is not an editor you want to work for, in a more perfect world
