So lucky to spot this guy. They hide well in the grass! It’s a Rabid Wolf Spider. It is named for its fast, frantic movements, not because it has rabies. This species is harmless to humans and beneficial in gardens as it preys on insects. I’m amazed it was still long enough for me to capture this.

Thank you! And I’d say it’s about the same size as a chicken. I have seen many and at first I thought they were injured because they didn’t flee when I got close. But then they fly off but usually not far.

I had no idea I had a Carrion plant until now since it’s the first bloom I’ve had with this plant.

Yes it’s called a carrion plant for a reason. The flower smells like rotting flesh. For real. 🤣
