🏡️ Today's #InvasiveAlienSpecies is Broussonetia papyrifera, the Paper Mulberry.
🌲 This plant is a swift coloniser of disturbed areas, including forests.
πŸ‚ It can form extensive, dense stands through spreading root systems, and its pollen is highly allergenic.

On the role of mutualisms in plant biogeography: consequences for ecology, evolution, and invasion Most plant species world-wide depend on one or more mutualisms – beneficial associations with other species. Tasmanian leaders struggle with a basic fact: environment laws should protect the environment | Clear Air Nature in Australia’s smallest state is in poor health, but this has been largely ignored by both major parties in the lead-up to the early state election

Australia’s smallest state, Tazmania, is marketed as β€œclean and green”, despite allowing the destruction of remaining rainforests and a whole raft of other environmentally devastating activities.

Why does this sound so familiar?

Our new study @nature.com analysed plant diversity change in >2000 tundra plots over 4 decades. We found that plants changed unevenly, mostly driven by warming and biotic interactions.
