Reading Bill McKibben's musings on the President's signature legislation, I was dismayed to learn that not only are credits for clean energy and jobs being removed... the bill includes new taxes on solar and wind, expected to cost households $110 more per year. Oh - it adds subsidies for coal, too.

Lowering families’ energy costs and making our air cleaner should be something we all agree on. This reckless bill to gut clean energy and pollution reduction programs – all to fund tax breaks for billionaires. We will keep fighting back.

A group of activists with Third Act Maine protest in front of MainePERS in Augusta, asking them divest the retirement portfolio from fossil fuel investments in accordance with LD 99. Join Third Act Maine and Divest Maine this Thursday morning, May 8th in Augusta for the latest MainePERS protest, 8-9 am at 139 Capitol Street. Trustees will be arriving for their monthly meeting, and having a big crowd makes a difference! The newspapers and TV news will be invited, and members of Third Act Maine will make brief statements about the urgent need for action to reduce climate change, the factors that make fossil fuels a bad investment, and the legal imperative for Maine PERS to divest from fossil fuels.
