Peroxisomal metabolism of branched fatty acids regulates energy homeostasis - Nature A UCP1-independent mechanism of thermogenesis involving ATP-consuming metabolism of monomethyl branched-chain fatty acids in peroxisomes is described and a previously unrecognized role for peroxisomes in adipose tissue thermogenesis is identified.

Based on preclinical studies and control of thermogenesis, dietary interventions implementing use of specific branched fatty acids or modulation of proteins involved in their metabolism might be a promising strategy to treat #obesity and related metabolic diseases www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Increasing familiarity with plant-based meals—not focusing on ingredients or individual dishes—may be a promising strategy to boost #plantbased meal consumption. Reducing food #neophobia may also be important, esp. in countries where dietary norms are less diverse: doi.org/10.1016/j.ap... #diets

When food meets culture…

A lot of the culturally significant foods come from a place of struggle.

In Zimbabwe, the ‘gango’ meal ( the word translating to wok/ roasting pan) is a mix of offal, organ meats and leafy vegetables!
