John Roberts has been a GOP operative, in "institutionalist" clothing, through all of his career.

Chapter and verse, here: www.harvardmagazine.com/legal/suprem...

He was on GWBush team during the 2000 Florida recount battles.

Think: Mike Johnson, with Harvard vs LSU pedigree.

It just feels so small, so uninspired…it sure ain’t β€˜freedom from want’ bold…
I’m beginning to wonder if it isn’t the messengers that are the real problem…I mean some choirs can’t inspire even with Beethoven’s 9th

It was an honor to join the swearing in ceremony of Stella Patterson as Chief of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

I look forward to continuing to work alongside Chief Patterson to advocate for public safety in Raleigh – to raise law enforcement salaries, create more violence prevention initiatives, and invest in a well-functioning crisis mental health care system.

There is no reason to be polite or decorous about this any more.

The current Supreme Court is corrupt.

US democracy cannot survive unless it is reformed.

And to spell this out for anyone wondering: There are literally (almost) millions of articles, books, reports, films, podcasts, archives about the plight and prospects of "disadvantaged" Americans. Done some myself.

Karp doesn't know about them only because he is too smug or incurious to read.

US vaccine advisers say not all babies need a hepatitis B shot at birth A federal vaccine advisory committee has voted to end a longstanding recommendation that all U.S. babies get the hepatitis B vaccine on the day they’re born.

The Trump Administration finds new ways to pull the rug out from under Americans every day.

And now they're putting babies in danger.

Illinois just enacted a law to provide our own science-based recommendations to protect access to vaccines so families get the care they need.

Yup. The nightmare that has haunted John Roberts.

He wanted to be remembered as one of the great Chief Justices.

He has now displaced Roger Taney as the worst.

i'd go even further and say there is a reason even nixon kept this kind of stuff to himself. you would have to go back quite a bit to find a point at which is acceptable for a president to say anything like this *in public*, to say nothing of in the oval office.

The foreign-born fraction of the US population was 15% in 1890, and in 1910. America thrived.

That fraction is 16% now.

The difference is that in 1890/1910, >96% of immigrants were from Europe or Canada. Today that's less than 10%.

It's best to be honest about one one is actually afraid of.

The current Supreme Court has forfeited all legitimacy.

Democrats (and everyone) need to address that reality.

John Roberts > Roger Taney.

Court needs to expand. And have fixed termsβ€”like *every* other supreme court in developed world. And have ethics rules, like all normal organizations.

The fact that four hostile drones tried to hit Zelenskyy’s plane & it’s barely a blip in the news cycle should terrify everyone. We’ve been dragged so deep into the chaos era that an attempted strike on a world leader doesn’t even break through. When this becomes normal, the world is in real danger.

The Olivia Nuzzi Comeback Is Everything Wrong With Modern Media Olivia Nuzzi’s comeback isn’t a personal scandal storyβ€”it’s proof that today’s media rewards access, personality, and controversy more than ethics.

"She’s not trying to rebuild her reputation as a journalistβ€”she’s building a different kind of brand entirely, one where being interesting matters more than being ethical, where attention is the only currency that still spends."

The best thing I have read about her. www.mediaite.com/opinion/the-...

Yep. I have a term for it.

Used in this way, "some say" and "critics say" are signals warning us that what comes next is not truth-seeking but refuge-seeking behavior.

"Depends on you ask" operates in similar fashion.

You might want to look into the history of why USPS was *intentionally* saddled with onerous pension burdens, unlike any other federal agency and any private company I'm aware of.

And the history of its "universal service" commitment, and how that differs from normal for-profit organization.

Our kids were little, and we lived in Malaysia, when current HepB vax approved in 1986. Our doctor in KL told us how great it was for our kids to get this protection so early in life. I got my shot too. Deb was then very sick w HepA, from trip through China. Got her shot later

This ruling is evil

An outstanding piece that does make me think about the connection between this wanton cruelty and the media illiteracy Serwer highlights here. I see the kind of blatant misreading of material regularly in my classes, even among students who are not malevolent fascists.
