👉 While the impact of sex was modest, some of the observed sex differences could not be explained by covariates. We therefore recommend to include sex stratification in future microbiome studies.

📊 We found modest associations between sex and gut microbiota composition, with some differences persisting after adjusting for covariates. For menopausal status, most associations were driven by age. We also identified sex-specific microbial pathways, such as vitamin B6 synthesis.
