Night!

The first movie vampire to wear fangs was
Atif Kaptan, who starred as the Count in Drakula Istanbul'da, a Turkish film from 1952.
#Svengoolie
It's not entirely the movie's fault that it's so stagy—it's based on a stage play which ran successfully for quite a while before filming. Oddly enough, the same happened with the play's revival in the 70s and the Frank Langella film.

"To die, to be really dead--that must be glorious!"
"Uhhh, yeah, Count—IS THAT THE TIME? I HAVE A BABYSITTER WAITING!"
#Svengoolie
"May I present the two dull girls who no one is interested in, and the boring stick who can't decide which one he wants?"
#Svengoolie
Fortunately for Dracula, he travels with a lighting crew.

Not on MY ship!

Well--do something about that. It still holds up. In fact, it's still fantastic.
#Svengoolie
I think you are. We leave off the final e.
#Svengoolie
Nope. :) Just the King's Spanish.
15.02.2026 01:29 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0One of the reasons #Dracula is so interesting is its odd combination of seriously cool, effective, atmospheric and scary moments mixed with indifferent direction, some dire performances, and overall creakiness.
#Svengoolie
Aw, I'm teasing. We know you love us.

Rave, you're two-timing us. On Valentine's Day, yet! 😂

15.02.2026 01:20 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0It's not generally known, but between the stage play and this movie, Béla learned a lot of his dialogue phonetically... which to some extent explains Béla's... Lugosiness.
#Svengoolie
I mean, putting Castle Dracula in Texas would be NOVEL, but...
15.02.2026 01:17 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0😂This one more than most. It's thought to be the worst short they ever made--even by diehard Stooge fanciers.

Which are not native to Romania, or anywhere near it.
#Svengoolie
I never understood what Browning was doing here. The coachman IS supposed to be Dracula, but the novel has him completely disguised, to hide the fact that he has no servants.

Raise your hand if you've never seen the Spanish version of Dracula, shot simultaneously with a completely different cast.
Actually, don't bother with the hand, just see if you can see the movie--which in some ways is better than this one.

I wonder what would have happened if Tod Browning had been able to cast Lon Chaney Sr. in the title role. (He died the year before #Dracula was released.)
Would Lugosi have happened? Would anything that we know as the Universal Classic Monsters have happened?
#Svengoolie
That's one magic word three times, Phil.
#MeTVThreeStooges
What in the what-the-what is going on with this goddamned short?
#MeTVThreeStooges
Come to think of it, that's what they called him in MAD's Moby Dick parody.

In the Stoogiverse, nobody just proposes to someone and marries them. There's always some elaborate plan, deception or con game attached.
