There is a certain type of "reasonable liberal" who thinks there is a fair argument to be had over how many trans people there should be and want points for not thinking it should automatically be zero.

some influential people have decided that trans people should go away - and unlucky for them, we are still here and are not just going to go away. they then have a choice to resolve this feeling the correct way - by saying "hey, maybe these people have a point and i should chill out about this."

This is correct. Any candidate cynically “triangulating” on trans kids is a non-starter, and now is the time to say so. There’s still so much time to advance candidates that DON’T suck.

Slimey from sesame street, an orange and yellow striped worm-like puppet.

Slimey from Sesame Street is often described as a worm, but has clearly been misidentified.

He has clear vertebrate eyes, jaw and tongue.

So the question is, what kind of vertebrate is Slimey? 🧵

From a filing today, the State Department intends to revoke and replace transgender people's passports that are changed under a current court order if a higher court reverses the order.

This would be a major problem for trans people traveling.

Self Censorship Is Actually Good Being an asshole is a choice.

Self censorship can be good. We need more of it, not less. I wrote about it for Bad Faith Times: badfaithtimes.com/self-censors...

I am getting multiple reports that the Trump admin is NOT complying with the court order requiring passport updates for transgender people.

Some passport agencies are being told not to give trans people passports with their correct gender marker, for now.

May you have people with more power than you could ever have threaten to take away the thing that fixes the symptoms you were relentlessly and systematically abused and diminished for. May you never heal.

I hope everyone involved in this new wave of ADHD denialism gets gaslighted and abused into thinking they are intrinsically broken and fundamentally evil for 35 years of their life and comes out of it shattered and traumatized.

We've identified over 230 words in #Ghor! There's a whole team of us now trying to squeeze out the last few drops from the show. It almost feels like being an anthropologist, uncovering a long lost civilization.

This reads as if someone prompted ChatGPT to write a statement that superficially sounds strong but is substantively very weak.

Who might have caused this? Who are the extremists? ? Who needs to take responsibility? All of that remains unstated!

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

We’ve leapt over a lot of red lines in the last week. But one I find most worrying is Trump/MAGA/ICE have ceased even pretending to claim some criminal pretext for cracking down on protected speech. It’s just straight up “if you criticize us, you’re getting throttled/arrested/disappeared.”

Yet if the movement is leaderless and anarchic, it isn't chaotic. It has guiding principles that allow participants to self- regulate even as the movement constantly reinvents itself. Among those principles is ("do not split"). Protesters use the expression to say that no one in the movement should condemn or obstruct the actions of fellow protesters they disagree with. People who oppose a given action should sit it out, but not try to prevent it.

The use of force, in particular, is a divisive issue. Some insist on the necessity of keeping the protests peaceful, so that they will seem morally legitimate and may gain sympathy from the broader public. Others — especially younger protesters or protesters who consider that the lengthy sit-ins of the Umbrella Movement failed — believe that some measure of force has become necessary; otherwise, the government will simply ignore them.

The “do not split” idea acts as a bridge between these two factions by promoting mutual respect for diverging views within the protest movement.

the hong kong protestors used the phrase "do not split" to mean that the radical protest and peaceful protest arms of the movement should refuse to criticize each other.

Yet another cause for concern: Trump’s memorandum purports to authorize the Secretary of Defense to deploy active-duty armed forces as well, if he deems it necessary. But it cites no law whatsoever that would expressly authorize such a deployment. 16/19

No president has ever federalized the National Guard for purposes of responding to potential future civil unrest anywhere in the country. Preemptive deployment is literally the opposite of deployment as a last resort. It would be a shocking abuse of power and the law. 15/19

But it would be a mistake to focus too much on which statutory power is being used here. What matters it that Trump is federalizing the Guard for the purpose of policing Americans’ protest activity. That’s dangerous for both public safety and democracy. 8/19

08.06.2025 15:25 — 👍 796    🔁 198    💬 3    📌 10

Previous presidents have used this authority to call up Guard forces *in order to deploy them under the Insurrection Act.* 10 USC 12406 has not historically been treated or used as an independent authority. Trump’s move is vulnerable to legal challenge on that ground alone. 7/19

These protests and direct actions are not just symbolic.

For anyone not from LA, keep in mind that the LAPD is basically a white supremacist occupying army. They have been wanting to do this for decades. The sanctuary city status of LA means nothing to them.
