Reflections on Tinybird Β· ~/rbv

After 3 incredible years at @tinybird.co, it's time for my next adventure.

I really enjoyed other people's tales of what companies are like from the inside, so here are my reflections on Tinybird: rbarbadillo.github.io/tinybird

How we automatically handle ClickHouse schema migrations How we use data lineage to optimize ClickHouse table deployments and avoid unnecessary and expensive data migrations.

Two months ago, we released automatic schema migrations.

We built it to be bulletproof: work for any data lineage, every time. But we were using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Now we're getting surgical: www.tinybird.co/blog-posts/w...

47 times a day I type git psuh and I thank the git gods for not making me retype it.

I added something similar to the Tinybird Forward CLI, hope this makes someone's life a little easier :)

There are many other interesting things about this release!

Here is Cameron using it to build a Next.js app, where you can see the new local experience and Cursor/LLM integration better => youtu.be/oe__vyW6NtQ

We have some way to go yet, both in new functionality and streamlining some already existing things, but we’re all πŸ‘‚for feedback!

Evolve data sources Β· Tinybird Docs Evolve your data sources in Tinybird.

We are offloading all that complexity to ourselves. You just add whatever you want your tables and transformations to be, and how you want the transformation of old data (some casting for a type change, or some default for a new column for instance) and that’s it => www.tinybird.co/docs/v2/test...

We have seen customers struggle with this time and time again, and we’ve provided some tools to ease the process.
We provided the necessary tools to run data migrations, but you still needed to run the backfill yourself, coordinate changes with Materialized Views, etc.

Data migrations can be cumbersome but relatively straightforward IF you don’t work with:
(a) real-time ingestion,
(b) real-time reads,
(c) triggers that transform data at write time (a special kind of materialized views)
Well, Tinybird has all three πŸ™ƒ

I’m excited about the new experience and how it makes sense end-to-end as a whole, but personally I’m particularly happy about how ambitious we’ve been with the deployment part πŸ‘‡
