An infographic criticising government funding, with text that reads "Public money is being paid to privat companies to provide terrible asylum accommodation. It's time to invest in social housingβso everyone, no matter their immigration status, has a safe, secure place to call home." The upper part of the image shows a silhouette marked with against a height chart background, overlaid with a red X. Below, an image of three people happily interacting at a table.
Itβs time to invest in communities and social homes, not private pockets.
The government is handing money to companies that make huge profits from housing people seeking safety in appalling conditions.
But this could be used to fund a joined-up, local approach to housing people seeking safety.

As Festival of Quilts looms large I look back to this quilt, which I exhibited in 2023, and as part of my Graduate Gallery in 2024.
This quilt was the beginning of my realisation that I was becoming an activist textile artist and began to question whether I was producing quilts or banners.

Origami peace crane
We visited @nationaltrust.bsky.social Beningborough yesterday to see the amazing collages by Mary Delaney, and the origami of Kate Buckley.
I was inspired to make my first peace crane, there may be more we certainly need them.

Exploring textile techniques in paper. Today layering and cutting away.
It seems the new government needs the same messages as the last government when it comes to treatment of asylum seekers.

Log cabin in the top left built from blue strips of peace words. Blue strips and doves flying to the bottom right to a log cabin built from red strips of war words.
In the light of Meta's latest announcements I am going to try and migrate from IG to here. I am a textile artist studying at Bradford School of Art, addressing social justice issues one stitch at a time.
Currently exploring ways of subverting a traditional quilt to campaign for peace not war.
