to Jews, on the Gaza famine an open letter: we have been commanded

I just sent this out.

The Jewish people have moral frameworks for this moment.

It is a choice not to heed them.

Please let us meet this moment, let us see the shattered Temple around us, right now, and our responsibility to it.

The way that I was raised, being Jewish meant believing that every human life was sacred; to save a single human life meant saving all of humanity. That no law or ritual was more important than saving a single human life.

It's unfathomable that any Jew can accept what Israel is doing in Gaza.

Just had my heart stomped on by @theferocity.bsky.social 's memoir, How We Fight For Our Lives. It's already a treat to listen to Saeed read poems to us every week on Vibe Check podcast, so I knew his own writing would be beautiful.

I just found out yesterday that this podcast exists, and it's wild to hear people talk about me! Thankfully the hosts said nice things and I enjoyed listening to them recap the full week of games I got to see play out twice. Turns out we have the same taste in great anecdotes.

I appreciate that! Do you ever forget the existence of every single book the instant someone asks you to name a book? It felt like I did. But I do love that book!

I've seen some of what comes out of your own imagination, and hard agree!

I'm so excited to be part of this cohort this summer!!! Back in January, after a few years of rejections from Clarion, I wasn't even sure it was worth applying anymore. It still feels surreal that I'll get to spend 6 weeks honing my craft alongside 17 other talented writers!

You might be the one who got me to read Last Dragoners of Bowbazar!

I don't think they even reviewed The Other Valley. Coode Street podcast talks about how tough it is to get to everything, but I agree, it's a shame they didn't catch it (or maybe the assigned reviewer didn't like it??).

I'll have to check out your others if I have time!

Longest months I've ever lived through:

1) March 2020
2) January 2025

What does it mean? I can't draw firm conclusions from the numbers, except that I need to keep going. Rejections mean I'm still trying. I'll keep writing and submitting, and see what the numbers look like next year!

My 2024 in writing stats:

- Completed 3 short stories.
- Received 21 short story rejections, 5 of them personal. Two submissions still pending.
- Sent 38 queries for my novel. Got 36 query rejections (12 of them CNR), 1 full rejection, and 1 partial still pending.
