Itβs interesting that I was hired for my postdoc as an EMS researcher, but itβs the cannabis related research Iβm helping with that is going the best.

30.04.2025 21:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A brief moment of happiness in this uncertain time for researchers: I am a postdoc and have TWO of my dissertation chapters currently under peer review at separate journals. Iβve finally made it past the editorβs desk!
To say I am giddy, is an understatement.
Did some good work today on revising my first dissertation chapter. Going to then get it reviewed by a mentor here at UNC (who offered to do so) and then making final edits before sending it off to a journal.
19.03.2025 23:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The Department of Sociology and Criminology at SUNY - Buffalo is doing great things with prison-related research and outreach. Proud to have received my education from these folks.
12.03.2025 18:27 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβve submitted a request for data that Iβm excited about. If granted, it will be used for a study Iβm *very* excited about.
12.03.2025 13:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Welp, desk reject. Iβm beginning to think my dissertation work is not as important to the world as I once thought.
08.03.2025 06:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Am liking Atlas.ti incrementally more each time I use it.
06.03.2025 02:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just submitted a research article from my dissertation. First time for this particular chapter. With the amount of rejections Iβve received over the last couple years, Iβm hoping for an R&R.
27.02.2025 20:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1I canβt help but wonder what the mental health toll will be from this. My best guess is a hopelessness that may result in a depression that could fester into self harm up to and including suicide.

I think Iβm going to check off a few βto doβsβ this week. I can feel it. Weβll see what I get done. Cheers, everyone.
24.02.2025 04:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The federal governmentβs initiative against science is as perplexing as it is ridiculous. I just found out about this list of NSF grants compiled by Cruz et al. His quote about scientific integrity is particularly confusing. Like, thatβs what the studies are based onβ¦

As a lifelong Bills fan, there is a smile on my face and a song in my heart.
10.02.2025 03:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As a new sociologist that read and listened to a good bit of Burawoy during grad school, I am saddened by his passing. As a retired paramedic, I know that ambulance crew tried like hell to help him. Rest in peace, Professorβ¦and thank you.
05.02.2025 00:54 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I donβt think the federal government realizes that there are sociologists out there like me, who are incredibly petty and will make it a mission to circumvent these ridiculous lists in order to research these βbannedβ topics.

04.02.2025 05:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Since the freeze/unfreeze/whatever-that-was last week, Iβm wondering if these uncertainties w/ federal grants & other funding is going to result in an unintentional shift into private sector education & industry jobs, in the hope of preserving intellectual integrity in scientific research.
03.02.2025 18:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβm interested to see if programs like PEPFAR are going to be picked up by WHO nations, so care disruption is at a minimum. #globalhealth #HIV
28.01.2025 22:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A very smart colleague just pointed out the grim truth that the U.S. leaving the WHO may ultimately be a win for the rest of the world. Why? Because without a vote, βthe US can't block WHO actions like vaccine programs, disease surveillance, contraception, etcβ. Man, that is daaaark, but accurate.
