Labour should act on indexation at the next Budget, obviously that raises questions about how it’s funded but the indexation could continue to change over time - it doesn’t all have to be done at once

The problem is Reeves sounds like she’s defending the Tory/LD changes which she voted against and were always destined to blow up in this way, and the Greens want to move the debate on to student debt cancellation (which is a different issue to indexation and just more fantasy thinking from them)

There just seems to be a familiar pattern of:

-Politicians recognise fiscal context and need for reform, returning controls and conditionality to the system
-Everybody just says “more money needed” when it isn’t coming and accuses them of them being heartless/right-wing/not understanding anything
