This case involves a district-court injunction that threatens to upend immigration officials' ability to enforce the immigration laws in the Central District of Cali-
fornia by hanging the prospect of contempt over every investigative stop of suspected illegal aliens. Not only is the Central District the Nation's most populous district overall; at best estimate, it harbors some 2 million illegal aliens out of its total popu-
lation of nearly 20 million people, making it by far the largest destination for illegal
aliens. Given the Administration's commitment to enforcing the Nation's immigration laws-under which illegal aliens are subject to investigative stops and detention

to facilitate removal-it should be no surprise that the Los Angeles area is a top en-
forcement priority. When immigration-enforcement stops involve briefly detaining a suspected illegal alien, they must comply with the Fourth Amendment's reasonable-suspicion requirementโ€”a low bar that "is considerably less than * * * a preponder-ance." United States v. Sokolow, 490 U.S. 1, 7 (1989). Like most Fourth Amendment tests, that context-specific inquiry requires considering the totality of the circum-stances. And here, those circumstances necessarily include that illegal presence is widespread in the Central District, where 1 in every 10 people is an illegal alien; that
many locations unlawfully employ illegal aliens and are known to hire them on a day-to-day basis; that certain types of jobs-like day labor, landscaping, and construc-tionโ€”are most attractive to illegal aliens because they often do not require paper-work; that the vast majority of illegal aliens in the District come from Mexico or Cen-
tral America; and that many only speak Spanish.
Needless to say, no one thinks that speaking Spanish or working in construc-
tion always creates reasonable suspicion. Nor does anyone suggest those are the only
factors federal agents ever consider. But in many situations, such factors-alone or in combination-can heighten the likelihood that someone is unlawfully present in the United States, above and beyond the 1-in-10 baseline odds in the District. U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are entitled to rely on these
factors when ramping up enforcement of immigration laws in the District.

I think itโ€™s safe to say theyโ€™re just gonna be enforcing the laws they want to enforce against the people they want to enforce them against instead of honoring the body of the constitution as an all-encompassing mandate for behavior, so you gotta stop seeing the world inside that system

We were coming in from a fire drill, and all the kids in front of me were doing that thing where you jump up and tap the door frame, so I did it too. For some reason I got lunch detention for that??? My parents thought it was dumb as fuck, I kinda wish they'd told the principal off on the phone lol

the Times - and the rest of the reactionary centrists - really, truly do not understand that your average liberal at this point is

a) desperate to see anyone fighting back

b) wants heads on pikes

c) quite aware of how fast we are backsliding towards open bigotry

Community And Choice Are Notย Bubbles Disclosure: I am on the board of Bluesky and am inherently biased. Adjust your skepticism of what I write on this topic accordingly. It seems a bit odd: when something is supposedly dying or irrelevant, journalists can't stop writing about it. Consider the curious case of Bluesky, which, according to various pundits, is a failed "liberal echo chamber" that nobody uses anymore.

I think people also under estimate how feeling like you canโ€™t change what you do without threat of homelessness or poverty actually takes the passion out of what youโ€™re currently doing for work. Because it feels like youโ€™re trapped in some way. It feels anxiety provoking

FBI has arrested Judge Hannah Dugan in Milwaukee, WI, for "helping an illegal escape arrest." FBI hasn't provided an arrest warrant or criminal complaint, but Judge Dugan already sits behind bars.

We told you it would escalate when they disappeared immigrants without due process. This is fascism.
