Now I'm thinking habanero "chips" would work well with oatmeal, with their fruity apricot notes and high heat. #kidlitchat

As a chile fan, that might temper some of the disappointment. #kidlitchat By the way, that first sentence is almost exactly what my character says in the argument with the other character.

I knew I liked you. Another character tries to argue that oatmeal chocolate chip is better--it gets them both out of the way! #kidlitchat

I revised a scene last night where a secondary character rhapsodizes over an oatmeal raisin cookie recipe, one of my ultimate comfort foods, for reasons. That's what distracts him to the point that he's no help to my MC. #kidlitchat

I'm querying a MG based largely on hard stuff from my own life. Writing through emotion is not easy! #kidlitchat

Ha! I'm the oldest of four brothers. #2 used to try to get me in trouble at night by irritating me until I'd yell at him. I wonder how much that influenced my ability to ignore noise. #kidlitchat

No--I just count days and use a small, focused, time-based goal. I guess it's modified Pomodoro, but not intentionally. #kidlitchat

I'm at my best in the late morning, but can't do my own writing then. #kidlitchat

I had to write with noise when I was going to the office every day. Write with people talking about everything possible, or miss deadlines--not the way to keep getting paid. I prefer the more controlled environment of my home office, but too quiet is a bigger distraction for me. #kidlitchat

I go by time, not words. Works better with revision. And I keep my goals small--20 minutes. It's rarely actually 20 minutes once I get going, but some days that all I can manage, and that's fine. Even 20 minutes every day adds up to a lot of writing. #kidlitchat

I've been a professional writer for over 35 years and spent a lot of time writing in noisy environments. I'm used to writing with other people's words flying around me--talking, music, TVs, whatever. #kidlitchat

Counting is part of my secret. After a certain point, who wants to reset to zero? #kidlitchat

Writing routine is my jam. I've written 2,586 straight days so far, mostly at night after my wife goes to sleep. She works early, so I write late-ish. But I've written in my bedroom, home office, hotels, on trains--wherever I happen to be. #kidlitchat

Just finished eating delivery from a new-to-us taco place so my belly's happy and my mouth is glowing. THIS dragon loves hot sauce on his tacos. Now I'm ready for #kidlitchat

Some of the best settings become secondary characters themselves. #kidlitchat

The story I'm revising right now has a very important animal companion. It's been fun giving Silver a personality and backstory, even if he is just a common field mouse. #kidlitchat

That's cool that the characters connect the stories. I have stories that are connected by setting, even in different types of stories with entirely different casts. And often there's a goat in there somewhere. Not even sure why. #kidlitchat

I've yet to write a sequel, but if I do, it'll likely be a secondary character from book 1 becoming MC. #kidlitchat

I tend to write short, so a character who captures my affection usually gets room to grow. #kidlitchat

Happy to be here. Great topic! In almost everything I've ever written, a secondary character has become my favorite. #kidlitchat

Interesting. Now that I think about it, I tend to have more of an idea how secondary characters look than mt main characters. Maybe because my MC sees them. 🀷 #kidlitchat

Not recent, but I still hope to one day see a Hobbit film that looks and feels like The Hobbit. #kidlitchat

Rajani's book would make a great movie. I'd miss her lovely verse, though.

Jason Reynold's Track books might be good too. I watch so few movies, but I might see that.

Happy to be here again. Tough topic, though. Other than the much-deserved additional income for the author, I'm not a big book-to-movie guy. Probably because I don't watch many. But I'm all for more money for writers. #kidlitchat

This one does feel more conversational or party-like than the structured MG chats I did back in the old platform, but I met some great people there too. #kidlitchat
