Dayanne Figueroa was on her way to get coffee before heading to work when she encountered a chaotic scene in West Town: heavily armed, masked federal agents making arrests on a residential street. People yelled as vehicles honked their horn — a sign now used to alert neighbors that immigration federal agents are in the area — and witnesses said federal agents had arrested several landscaper workers presumed to be in the country without authorization. As Figuero tried to drive through the 1600 block of West Hubbard Street on Friday, Oct. 10, an unmarked vehicle driven by federal agents collided with Figueroa’s as it tried to speed away from a hostile crowd, multiple videos reviewed by the Tribune show. Seconds after the crash, agents abruptly stopped their vehicle and exited with weapons in hand pointing at Figueroa, a U.S citizen. Agents then forcibly opened her door and pulled her out of the vehicle by her legs without identifying themselves, presenting a warrant or informing her that she was under arrest. As bystanders yelled, “You hit her! We have it on video!” agents ignored the crowd and forced Figueroa into a red minivan and drove away. Her car was left behind in the middle of the road, her coffee still in the cup holder, and her keys in plain view.

In Chicago, a woman was driving to get coffee when a DHS vehicle fleeing an angry crowd crashed into her car. Armed agents jumped out of the vehicle, yanked her door open, pulled her by the legs out of her car at gunpoint, held her incommunicado for hours, then released her with no charges.

Casting a vote freely and having it anonymized are not the same thing. That’s why intimidation happens at the voting booth, not when it’s counted. Also, votes are not publicly published, if that’s what you’re asking.

We have drop boxes all around the city, most “mail in” ballots aren’t actually mailed.

This feels like a different way to say what I said.

The old rulebook is gone. It's not coming back and we all need to accept that. The DOJ is weaponized. the GOP is rigging elections. Trump is literally bulldozing the White House.

Democrats need to operate under this new reality, fight hard, and play by the same rules.

Elections are handled by local election workers, not federal workers. These are state employees.

My vote was already counted, I received notification via text and email last week.

Oh, I’m definitely aware. I’ve voted by mail in every election since 2003 so I keep an eye on that very carefully.

My vote has already been registered and counted. In CA when you vote via mail or drop box ballot, it’s registered and counted immediately. I received a text message from the Election Board days ago, so if somehow my ballot disappears or is changed after the fact, I have proof of fraud.

Kern, San Bernardino and Orange are also very red counties. I suspect part of this is a smoke screen so he can target LA and rationalize the move by saying that he’s targeting both red and blue counties, when really he’s just going after LA.

Wow. Here comes the voter intimidation starting in blue states already. Well I got news for them, LA County is already voting via mail in ballot so they’re not going to intimidate anyone.

Reality is clear enough. We really didn't need the metaphor.

No mention at all of the fact that Trump doesn't have the legal authority to do this, that plans haven't even been reviewed (because the office is closed for the government shutdown), that the size and cost estimates keep changing, etc., etc.
