Reminded of the story of Clem Attlee when, the night before the 1951 election (which he lost), a radio reporter asked him whether he had anything he wanted to say to the nation and he just said "No. Thank you."

Wildlife recovery means more than just survival of a species Current laws that deem species safe from extinction ignore their ecological role, geographic range and genetic diversity, as well as their relationships with people.

For decades, wildlife policy has defined recovery as survival, keeping species alive, but not truly allowing them to live.

From wolves to grizzlies to bison, weโ€™ve settled for the bare minimum. What if conservation meant more than avoiding extinction?

In some places religious symbols are also contentious political symbols. Then what?

It's specifically the natural world that changing the clocks makes zero difference to.

Peter Watkins, Oscar-winning director of The War Game, dies aged 90 Radical English director who clashed with the BBC over his โ€˜horrifyingโ€™ film about nuclear war, was forced to look abroad to continue working

Peter Watkins has died - perhaps the least-appreciated great British filmmaker (and you sense he wouldn't have wanted it any other way). www.theguardian.com/film/2025/oc...

I think there are plenty on here, they just can't be bothered replying to what are basically 'what's your favourite film' clickbait posts.

It's also something people used to say when dictating a letter to secretarial staff to be typed, the assumption being that the appropriate 'faithfully' or 'sincerely' would be substituted depending on the recipient. It used to be heard in office scenes in films and radio plays.

A secondary question is what did people do with all the space they boasted about saving when they threw their cds away. A shelf of self-improvement books they never read from the body, mind and spirit section in Waterstones? A collection of porcelain cats?

del Toro's 'Frankenstein' commendably follows the novel in establishing the Creature's gentle affinity with nature and animals, then completely throws the point away by depicting a wolf pack as clichรฉd horror film monsters. The whole film could do with more Shelley and less Hollywood wizz-bang.

We live in a time when any apparent complicity by artists is seen as total complicity. The people who assessed complicity guilt at the time were more circumspect and nuanced (as in Pabst and Richard Strauss's cases). Riefenstahl became without doubt a full-on Nazi though.

Perhaps you saw Das blaue Licht (The Blue Light)? She also starred in Die weiรŸe Hรถlle vom Piz Palรผ (The White Hell of Pitz Palu) although that was directed by Arnold Fank and GW Pabst.
There's some stunning aerial photography in it.

It's the same contemptuous mentality from the same obnoxious, self-serving, wantonly destructive people though. Different ends of a single lethal wedge. We don't give vandals and thieves a pass because there are also murderers.

Not sure the late twist in Yorgos Lanthimos' #Bugonia is really a twist, because most people will see it coming over the horizon from 500 miles away. Which is maybe the point.
Totally stunning ironic use of Marlene Dietrich's version of 'Where Have All the Flowers Gone' at the end though.
