soooo very cool and woke of you to say this in reference to people being sterilized by their government against their will. thatβs the worthwhile discussion at hand β why people would want to have kids vs if their ability to should be stolen by the war crimes of a secret police. /s
02.02.2026 07:20 β π 95 π 0 π¬ 0 π 4To put this in no uncertain terms: if you are gassed enough without protection you may lose your ability to bear children entirely.
02.02.2026 05:55 β π 1173 π 127 π¬ 15 π 5People who may want to have children in the future should bear this in mind: tear gas can have serious consequences for female reproductive health. The data on this isn't great but I would at least recommend ensuring you have a quality respirator or mask on at all times.
02.02.2026 05:53 β π 3481 π 838 π¬ 42 π 31The difference in response is because many of us were out there with our fellow Portlanders getting teargassed in 2020.
We saw what federal occupation looks like. We also saw some of our elected leaders fail to rise to the moment. Weβre not going to make the same mistake.
The current Portland City Councilors who are endorsed by the police union are:
Smith (D1), Ryan (D2), Novick (D3), Zimmerman (D4), Clark (D4)
Listing them because the Portland Police Association is making it a fight to have a masking ban (for law enforcement) and a tear gas ban.

I recorded this today, in Portland, Oregon, at a huge march to the ICE facility in SW. The crowd was full of cyclists who had ridden there in memory of Alex Pretti; members of several labor unions; and ordinary citizens of every age, including this little girl. So of course ICE deployed tear gas.

Five different illustrations from artists with Long COVID in round shapes on a black background. White text with purple highlights reads, βThe Sick Times. Drawing the elephant: Nine artists illustrating Long COVID and the ongoing pandemic. By Grae Salisbury."
Illustrators who bravely explore the ongoing pandemic in their work break down stereotypes, contextualize differing experiences, build community, and raise awareness. These artists create spaces where audiences can reflect and engage with stories that can broaden our understanding of ourselves and the world. In this way, art is not only a community-building tool, but also functions as a βmirrorβ: for those who struggle to look directly at the elephant in the room, they can engage with its reflection. β Grae Salisbury
