Hanifee outperformed league averages across all major run-prevention metrics

In 2025, Brenan Hanifee earned a bullpen job with a strong Spring Training and carried that momentum into the regular season. Across 60 innings, he produced 0.6 WAR, tying him for 3rd among Tigers relievers and establishing himself as a reliable bullpen option!

Ben’s biggest strength was his fastball command. The mission was to enhance the arsenal to create more swing and miss!

Ben Agnew returned this fall after doing a little bit of everything last spring: long relief, high leverage spots, a start, and even some time in the outfield! He ranked 4th among returners in innings pitched. After our first week evaluation this fall, we focused on restructuring his arsenal.

These adjustments have given Evan more tools to attack hitters and the confidence to dominate the zone. Excited to see him carry this momentum into a big senior year!

That’s a dramatic improvement in both movement profile and consistency, giving Evan a legitimate pitch that works more on a horizontal plane to complement his fastball and changeup

Slider Progression

The second half of the summer was dedicated to improving his slider shape. The focus was on holding supination longer to create more gloveside movement. Once we found the right grip and cue combination, the pitch took off

The results speak for themselves:

Game Performance

The goal early in the summer was simple: attack the zone more effectively with his full arsenal. We focused on refining aiming points and rebuilding his confidence to trust his stuff in the strike zone

This summer for Evan Bert (Bridgewater College) was split into two clear halves. The 1sr focused on game performance as he worked to reach his innings threshold for the year. The 2nd centered on slider development & sharpening his second breaking ball to make an already strong arsenal even better!

Couldn’t be happier with the growth from this group and that’s before diving into all the arsenal changes (coming soon 👀). Excited to see how these guys attack the offseason and keep building!

Last week of the fall was the best week yet! Everyone executed in their bullpen comp while their arsenals were the most consistent yet. It was a great environment for development this fall as the pitchers were open minded to different ideas while also had the freedom to ask questions!

This fall, our focus has been on building nasty arsenals, attacking the zone, learning to make in-game adjustments, and executing with intent. The guys put in the work and it shows: Spin to Win 🌪️

Arsenal Construction: SVU Edition 🔧

-Added a variety of fastballs: most common being cutters, 2-seams, and splinkers
-Tweaked changeup grips to kill depth (plus one gross kick change)
-Switched from changeups ➡️ splitters
-Added a spike or adjusted breaking ball grips to create more depth
