This is completely false from Milburn. He's supposed to be reviewing this issue and he's just making things up. Inexcusable.
Do you think any of current nuclear reactor projects are going well? Do you think small modular is actually going to work?
There is a value in sceptical questions and scrutiny, and yes - sometimes - that means turning down projects. Planning isnβt about just saying yes because you like a technology.
Yeah. Plenty of the traffic in my patch of Sydenham is people whoβve turned off it. Arguably this is how strategic roads naturally function in a city - trip lengths are short because itβs not a motorway joining cities, and you have a nearer supermarket/DIY store etc.
22.01.2026 21:59 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0And as someone who now lives by the south circular and uses it quite regularly it is a similar phenomenon to the A4 observation. The busy bits are because itβs where joining and leaving local journeys are overlapping. Itβs a rare journey that uses it strategically.

Itβs a shame - I was hoping the book might make some strong points but itβs so wedded to a failed economic model.
If the Bakerloop is the answer to βwe donβt have the money to build the Bakerloo line, but we need more capacityβ, then what is the answer to βwe donβt have money to make A2 safe to cycle on, but we need toβ? Itβs already 20mph, two people have been arrested in these crashes. Is it enforcement? Hmm.
21.01.2026 22:55 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Is it actually good enough to have a road with a superloop bus on it, where we know there are a lot of people cycling now, and no improvement in cycle facilities against when the red routes were put in place three decades ago?
21.01.2026 22:50 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We know that TfL has spent years considering cycle lanes on the Old Kent Road. Broadly it seems the A2 is a road where the flow of traffic has been seen as the priority over changes. Is that really going to continue to be an acceptable choice? www.se1.news/old-kent-roa...
21.01.2026 22:49 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0By my understanding - just for people who were cycling - weβve had a fatality on Old Kent Road (A2) in November, a serious collision further down the A2 at Deptford in December and now a further fatality, again on the A2 in New Cross
We know what makes these roads safe. Why arenβt we doing it?

To be honest both are good!
Of course the last time the Tour got to London we barely had a cycle network. You could have a really creative legacy event now.
We should have something really ambitious, not least as the tour itself has no paracycling element.
Peculiar that we seem to have completely lost RideLondon, have no news on a successor event and yet now have a Tour de France femmes time trial in 2027 for London.

The idea that journalists, politicians, groups or - you know, women, people of colour, LGBTQ+ people - should "stay on the pitch" doesn't really hold up.
