Progressive Populist. Elected officials must vote the way the majority of their constituents would vote, but can lead their constituency toward a more tolerant and inclusive viewpoint by helping them win and building trust. Member of NCDP SEC.

02.05.2025 13:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Agreed. If you need to suppress free speech in order to defeat an autocrat, you are deficient in democracy.
10.03.2025 18:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The recent 60 Minutes piece on post hurricane insurance underpayments indicates that this situation is a whole lot worse than that. Corporations that are unwilling to do a job need to no longer have that job.

In a democracy the majority should rule. To the extent that this does not happen, the regime is less than a democracy.
We have never had a full democracy. It is necessary to make one.

16.12.2024 02:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The optics of the situation are this: if you propose transformational change, a serial liar can call the proposer stupid and evil. To oppose a binding referendum on transformational change, the serial liar must call you, the voter, stupid and evil. Which makes the liar look --- stupid and evil.
15.12.2024 17:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Many thanks to Aileen, but brainstorms require replies more than likes. I think we should focus on binding referendums in for two or three keystone platform items. My top two choices are Income Inequality and Codify Roe. Medicare for All and ERA are close behind.
15.12.2024 17:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So, here's a brainstorm starter. In what ways could the Democratic Party make swing voters feel, truthfully, that they are in control of their government?

10.12.2024 20:52 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Please give us a way to monitor wealth and income inequality in real time and against other countries! This is a road map for the next democratic wave and we need to be able to see and show where the roads are. Please!
10.12.2024 18:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The only road that goes through is an even higher road. Actual 100% Democracy. Every single vote taken by a congressman must have 50.01% approval of constituents. Democrats must be seen as a vastly improved product.

08.12.2024 20:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Technology now exists to make democracy even more democratic, and that's where we should be going. The public needs to be able to fire those who act against their interests, and government shutdowns would be way, way less common if voters could instantly recall rogue public servants. (Repost)
05.12.2024 17:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So, here's a brainstorm starter. In what ways could the Democratic Party make swing voters feel, truthfully, that they are in control of their government?
05.12.2024 01:27 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Don't impose Medicare for all, taxing the rich, and open borders, but conduct a referendum for each and continue promoting progressive ideals while recognizing that true democracy means some of them will take longer to achieve voter consensus than others
22.11.2024 23:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If progressives can shift to a strategy of empowering the people to control their government rather than telling them what is good for them, I believe we can make further progress.
22.11.2024 23:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0and would only get credit for employing people at a good salary and have a smaller share of that pie.
22.11.2024 23:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0would be targeted for voter approved rewards. Companies that improved income inequality, benefitted the environment and priced fairly could get bigger tax benefits, as long as approved by a voter referendum. Tobacco, Casinos and Big Oil would likely not be seen as benefitting the people as a whole
22.11.2024 23:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If a megacorporation got a taxpayer funded plant or stadium built without paying salaries that benefitted Income Inequality, in the end they would be taking that money away from other superrich people not the working class. In addition, a portion of the additional taxes on the superrich
22.11.2024 23:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The majority of Americans would be way, way better off financially. More people having more to spend would drive the economy into best ever regions. Since then I've refined my proposal a bit. Tax rates on those making more than 10 million a year would be indexed to the Income Inequality measure.
