Here you will find: Ocs,mostly werewolves, vampires and furries. Sometimes I draw the same ocs in different Aus and settings.

Not on here much lately because I've entered the phase of getting my notes in order (SO many pages of them!) so I can write the 4th & final volume of my series.
Then it's on to writing the sucker, so I'll be on here even less, LOL.😁
I'll eventually re-emerge when it's time to take a breather!

I use a balanced mix of the two. Because sometimes, using 'tell' on a scene would bog the book down with unneccesary info dumping via endless dialogue.
And my books are already waaaay long. 😁😕

The goal of writing a book is to entertain the reader. So if your jokes also serve to advance or enrich the plot, leave 'em in!

I've got a similar situation in my series with a character who relentlessly tags along after my MC. That character is a comic foil, their interactions providing a lot of the humor. But he also introduces/educates my MC about the new land he's in, teaches him about the magic he doesn't believe in. 😁

Good general advice to follow, except when it comes to a scene-by-scene sequence where the payoff comes much later. But in that case, that scene way back when should do *something* to enrich the plot.

I also consider this 'plugging plot holes'. It's also a great resource for when you get stuck--reread your WIP to find little things/people/events that you can have come back to bite your MC in their butt later on as a BIG problem. 😁

Really is a quiet kind of despair seeing people I follow reposting news outlets that are ostensibly critical of Musk and his ilk which are illustrated by shitty AI slop. Just that slow erosion of our collective decision not to support it. "Well, okay but it's okay this time..."-ing us into oblivion.

Life is hard and cold but at least I can draw soft things....

You can go to your closest library to find safe space to write. You can write in a $3 notebook with a pen. You can bring a laptop and plug in. Libraries are quiet with niches where you won't be disturbed. You will also feel the support of all the novels around you.

If you get stuck, reread your WIP to find some minor thing/person and have it/them come back as a *big* problem that your MC & their friends have to deal with. 😁

I think it's more acceptable when used in dialogue for characters in the present, because slang is fun!
Beyond that, you're risking someone reading your book in a few years and being pulled out of the narrative to laugh & cringe at how dated it is.

I'll use L2 to introduce a character, but generally hover at L3 & L4 for established characters. I like to shift & get deeper (L5) into the Psychic Distance for more intense, emotional scenes.

This is great advice for finding the *true* start of your novel, but I also use it when switching scenes.
Especially if it puts Jason in a ridiculous situation. 😁
