The Memorial is tucked into a little triangle in the space where D Street, New Jersey Avenue, and Louisiana Avenue come together.
You should visit. It's an important reminder of what can happen when racism and xenophobia capture our nation's leaders.
Ahem.
I had the opportunity this morning to talk abt the legal history of Japanese American incarceration at the starkly beautiful National Japanese American Memorial in Washington, in the shadow of the Congress that sustained that program and the Supreme Court that validated key parts of it.

Well this answers a question I've had. In this Administration, you're celebrating #Christmas even when you're celebrating #Hanukkah.

And this is what it looks like today from the air. Same spot.
The ghostly streets of a city of more than 8,000 innocent, locked-up people.
This is what the site of the former Central Utah "Relocation Center" for Japanese Americans (1942-1945) looks like today from the road passing by.

I led the curation of the core historical exhibit there in 2011. It's an extraordinary place--and now they've reopened an enormous root cellar the prisoners used to store the veggies they grew.

We're debating the *second* strike.
Oops, he did debate Harris. But here I imagine he's referencing the Biden debate. He's a babbling fool, but I don't believe he'd gratuitously slam Vance like this.

02.12.2025 19:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think when he says, "I had a man, he had a man", he's saying that he had Joe Biden as an opponent and JD Vance had Tim Walz as an opponent. He's saying that Biden was incompetent, not JD Vance.

Great she's bringing the story of Japanese Americans to new ears, but the breathless simplification is...a challenge.

(f) the report alleged *all* US-born Japanese Americans who'd studied in Japan & then returned to the US were "at heart loyal citizens of Japan"
It's great Maddow's bringing the story to a wide audience.
A shame that it's oversimplified & sensationalized.
More commentary to follow, maybe.
