Wellington has horrendous IT systems (EDIS and MAP) that massively impair productivity and safety. They’re not even linked with Hutt and Wairarapa properly. It’s a ridiculous waste of time, not even counting the near-daily outages. Just…. Invest in health IT now. Anyone. Please.

Unless and until we face reality and create streetscapes and transport networks that actually make it safe for NZ kids to have in-person social interactions with each other, of course they’re going to spend too much time on devices, *just like the rest of us*

Only ever use ultrasound both in ED and ICU. Distal arterial lines at the wrist are a relic of pre-ultrasound days and need to go.
Ultrasound is reliably fast, less traumatic, and allows better positioning away from joints. Also saves money and plastic with the fewer failed attempts.

The only hope for climate change action in the USA is now Trump fumbling another pandemic and wiping out a chunk of the population.

Instead of referring patients to our mental health team, I’m sending them to the bottle shop. Thanks for the tip #MikeKing #GumbootFriday

I think BlueSky is waiting for the critical mass to take off.
If you do move here I will miss your amusing interactions with all the crazies on twitter, which due to the algorithms was like half my feed at one point.

Ah, the return of 1990s neoliberalism.
Promoted by those who were too young to live through the resulting hellscape, financed by those who did pretty well from privatisation and deregulation.

Reminds me of that little step between finishing med school and feeling all proud, to that first day on acute admissions when reality sets on.

If you need a six figure investment to even play, I agree it's not a sport.

The cricket world cup experience is cheapened by having minnows play who serve no purpose other than padding numbers and being fodder for the big nations.

Charging patients money they don't have to check their blood pressure sounds like a great way to develop white-coat hypertension.

It's a special ambulance that is exempt from rules of consent, and the staff don't believe your problem exists until they 'see it in person' first.
