A black pen in a crosshatch technique and black block printing ink applied with a roller on white paper illustration. The dark silhouetted shape of a woman in a black funeral dress stands at the foot of a bed in an Edwardian style room, she stares at a tired looking man under a heavy quilt. Moonlight shines into the room from behind the woman. Creepy and atmospheric.

I left my old job a couple of years ago. I’m getting by (just) but crikey, having done my tax return & seen how little I’m earning it was a shocker, it’s getting more & more difficult to earn money from illustration.

I have been out of action too so…I’ll get cracking!

Completely agree with that statement. I'm currently working on a story based around Bethmoora and keep getting distracted by reading more of his stories!

This list does not include an absolutely fantastic novel I read for a friend that deserves to see publication in the future.

Nor have I added the RPG books I've read, because I didn't keep track!

Most enjoyed: Stone and Sky, by @benaaronovitch.bsky.social, and The Birds, and other stories by Daphne du Maurier (particularly Monte Vertia)

Most disappointing: Moonchild (Aleister Crowley)

Shortest: The Vampyre (~8000 words)

Longest: Varney the Vampire (~667,000 words)

2025 in books: I didn't read as much this year as I planned (partly due to our new small human). Again the list is pretty much dominated with sci-fi, fantasy, and horror.

Definitely gravitated towards collections of short stories, although Varney the Vampire more than redressed the balance!

An old thread is making the rounds again, so here's an updated version.

Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is one of the most enduring and adapted works of literature in history.

But did you know that he wrote 22 sequels?

Some are great! Some are trash! Some are bizarrely fascinating.

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.

250 years ago today #JaneAusten was born. Little did she know that her works would go on to inspire a trilogy of ttrpg scenarios (alongside a myriad of other works).

To celebrate, Host and Hostility, my ENNIE award winning trio of 1-to-1 #RegencyCthulhu scenarios, is discounted to $2.50!
