My theory: Trump viewed the invasion of Minneapolis as preparing his shock troops for cold weather combat to be anticipated in Greenland. We'll see what happens. If he can't defeat Tim Walz and Jacob Frey, I'm not sure how well he'll do against the French and German defenders now heading north.

Amazon Prime has a really good, twisted horror movie: Good Boy. Not the 2025 American movie--totally unrelated. A 2022 Norwegian movie with subtitles. The acting was wonderful. I anticipated the penultimate scenes. The last scene was a total shocker. For those who like horror, enjoy!

Dark Rapture by Robert Gillham in the March 2025 issue of Cosmic Horror Monthly: Structured like the transcript to a biopic on a post-punk band that got deeply into eldritch pursuits, it was dead-on in format. And the horror builds in the way you'd expect with a Manson-like cult.

Another great 2025 short story well worth reading. Effie Seiberg is terrific at funny stories that nonetheless have a message to them. This one is a superhero story that focuses on disability accommodations. Enjoy!

Okay, I'm back to catching up on 2025 short fiction reading. Zach Shephard's "From Darkness, Awake" ran in this anthology about Circe and has her taking on a drug lord in present-day Miami. I thought the blending of myth with crime fiction was creative.

Well, a lot better than the last time we spoke. I've been back to my teaching job since April. The cancer and meds are making me tired. I had to give up the union activism altogether and dial back the writing a bit. But it's a slow but steady improvement. Tumor is not growing, so for now, I live.

Just watched #strangerthings latest episode. Vecna's defeated not only the Soviet army but now, the US army. Eventually he'll lose to Winona Ryder and a bunch of teenagers. No, no relation to typical #fantasy here. The '80s after the mall is destroyed, on the other hand... Very imaginative.

The scammers will have to up their game. I got an email that seemed to draw from blurbs and/or social media posts either I or my publisher wrote about my book. It was written to sound like someone who enjoyed the book. I guess my book appeals to bots, as a detector judged the message 100% AI-written

One last #ShortStory to write about before I call it a weekend: this one is not my usual cup of tea, but it's oddness and strangeness appealed to me. It's beautiful.

I loved the format on this short story: I could see where it was going the whole time, but the step-by-step gave it an emotional punch it wouldn't have otherwise had. Recommended reading.

Solved my Codex contest story no-plot problem: It's a mystery. I don't know what's going to happen yet, so neither does my protagonist. But my hardboiled attorney has met the femme fatale and she's dispensed him to deal with the big bad. Who's a bird. I'm stealing lines from Poe. Horror comedy.

I got my story seed for the Codex Halloween/horror contest and liked it so much that I've coasted a while, writing on just a vibe. Humorous noir with a sentient animal protagonist. I really should figure out what the story's about soon. Readers tend to like a plot.

If you have a burglar alarm, they often need a land line to function. And burglars need not meet stereotypes. The worst home invasion we ever had in our neighborhood was by rich, white, teenage vandals "visiting" a friend. The 14-year-old female ringleader got tried as an adult in court and jailed.

ICE foolishly arrested hundreds of South Korean immigrants at a Hyundai plant in Georgia. Don't they know that the men are actually demons? When they start harmonizing and dancing, the ICE terror forces will be in serious trouble. Honmoon over homeland! #Huntrix will defeat Noem!
