So, let me get your position clear - your contention is being visible while walking on a road at night is not safer than not being visible at night? Is that right?
And can we park the correlation/causation stuff? It’s up there with Maslow and Kubler-Ross on the list of ‘naive undergraduate tropes’.
Ah vibes based road safety!

Six Nations 2026
Analysis
Six Nations on road to
perdition unless chastening
Celtic wake-up call is heeded
Robert Kitson
Championship risks becoming a two-tier affair as
Ireland, Wales and Scotland all lose on the opening
weekend
Mon 9 Feb 2026
Few competitions in the world have the capacity
to turn wine into water quicker than the Six
Nations. Only a few days ago players, coaches
and fans of Ireland. Scotland and Wales were
poring over the championship fixture list with
their customary annual relish. Now, after just
one round, they are having to deal with the most
sobering Celtic wake-up call for more than a
quarter of a century.

Andy Farrell (behind) and Martin Corry, of England, tackling Ronan O’Gara. Ireland won that game (2007 in Croke Park) 43-13, the biggest ever margin of victory for Ireland over England.
Andy Farrell has been involved in both of Ireland’s biggest wins over England this century.

Playgrounds would become 'crack dens' if Greens were in power, policing minister says
I’m sorry, I know it’s a minor point, but crack dens are traditionally indoor establishments. What the scaremongering Labour minister is describing here is a crack paddock.

Ten makes a major difference but the whole lot a much improved today. The pack is having a great day. And everything the backs touch looks like a potential score

In high vis we trust!

Then will say gotcha in either case if you say it's they call you a zealot if you agree then it's high vis on OCS at 1pm in the middle of July.
There's no science behind it.

And this of course is the issue the high vis advocacy will essentially bate people in to a position of either saying yellow isn't more visible than black or saying it is.

Excatly and here we are having that exact same argument. We telling people to walk around pitch black country roads without a source of light but wear a yellow jacket despite the fact nearly everyone carries a source of light in their pockets everywhere they go.
21.02.2026 10:07 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
If its your only idea then no and maybe it's your only idea but it's official Ireland's only idea and it's a complete distraction as you can see because you've not mentioned a single proven safety intervention this entire time
21.02.2026 10:02 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
In the country in pitch dark? Well they should bring a light with them and after that if they want wear high vis. Fine.
In a well lit city? No
21.02.2026 09:59 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
This is the major issue. High vis proponents seems to think it's some sort of silver bullet. When the evidence suggests otherwise. When people point out that evidence you get. 'well surely you'd just do it to be 0.01%* safer'
*made up number for clarity
21.02.2026 09:53 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
As I've said numerous times any safety improvement is tiny.
A call for people to carry lights for example would actually achieve something but of course that's not really dealing with the issue of speeding and distracted driving. Now a call for a network of ANPR cameras would achieve save lives
21.02.2026 09:51 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
So who do you want to wear high vis and when? Because we've got school kids in cities wearing it in the middle of the day. The RSA is asking then to swear they'll wear it all the time
