BI-GENDERED 1/2 I wrote to you a couple of years ago (1993) ask-ing for feedback from guys about how they knew they were really men. At the time I felt sure that I was a transsexual and not a cross-dresser. Over the last one-and-a-half years, I have done a great deal of personal research and soul searching. I joined a support group for transsexuals called EON (Expressing Our Nature) here in Syracuse, New York. The group is mostly MTF women, but they gave me a lot of really great general information about transsexualism. Thanks to those women, sever-al therapists and my own willingness to look at myself honestly, I have come to the realization that I am not an FTM but am "bi-gendered."

2/2 What this means for me is that I feel like I pos-sess equal parts of the male and female genders in my body and my brain. This does not mean that I want to live exclusively as a woman or that I do not want to change my body surgical-ly, because I do. I am still interested in having some chest reconstruction, and now that I am clear about who I am, I will be able to present my case more effectively to my doctor. Being "bi-gendered," for me, means that I can really be myself because I see who I really am. For a long time I tried to be a "man" and was not happy, but I always knew that I was not happy as a woman. Now I feel like I'm finally begin-ning to be happy with my life and my interper-sonal relationships. This revelation has changed my life tremendously for the better and I want to share that with some of the people who have helped me.
