screenshot of a threads post from baratunde. it reads:
l've watched enough WWII documentaries (and Tenet) to recognize a moral pincer move.
From one side, the government applies unlawful, brutal force, discarding its own moral limits.
From the other side, the people are expected to take the highest road every time: perfect restraint, perfect behavior, no mistakes.
Any failure by the people justifies more abuse.
And any failure by the government somehow... also justifies for more abuse.
That asymmetry is a trap the majority of us see through.
I keep thinking about the moral pincer concept that @baratunde.com describes here. Leading with non-violence is necessary, itβs risky no matter what, yes itβs unjust and hypocritical and they will escalate and provoke, and we still need to show up to resist and disrupt, but train up and be prepared.

The fact that the three ICE/CBP agents involved in the two Minnesota shootings have nearly 40 years of combined experience should be the nail in the coffin of any "training" rhetoric

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call βsymbolic compliance.β
Thatβs when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

If America makes it through this, anyone who murmurs platitudes about "binding up the nation's wounds" must be drummed out of public life. They tried that after the first phase of the civil war, and it just led to where they are now. The cancer must be excised and destroyed. Nothing else will work.

A citizen.
Immigration agents grabbed him and put him in a chokehold.
"We're from the United States bro!' he screamed.
Agents took and sold his phone
And when he finally got home hours later, his shirt was ripped, he neck had angry, red welts, and he sobbed.

Videos Show How ICE Vehicle Stops Can Escalate to Shootings
A WSJ visual investigation found that the Minneapolis ICE killing is one of 13 incidents where federal immigration agents have used deadly force against civilians in vehicles since July.
WSJ investigation: In the past 6 months ICE agents have fired at vehicles 13 times, leading to:
* 8 people shot
* 5 of which were U.S. citizens
* 2 died
* no victims drew a weapon
The playbook: Agents box in a vehicle, block attempts to flee, then fire
