Finishing an old chapter I started years ago, well before the Ukraine invasion, and one of my characters said "They've weaponised drones, that's just madness" ... And it hit me hard. Dang. Might have to retcon some history with early drone warfare and a ban.

2000 words written in 2 days. That's more than the previous 2 months.

On a role. fingers crossed it lasts.

I might do well, but that's a very small hope. A fools hope. We'll see. I'd be super happy if I land in the 3rd Round. Sounds like from there onwards is for well received works.

I mean, I get it. The most professional book should be held up high. But I was hoping that other strengths in a work would also have equal footing, at least at the beginning. I feel like I've been punked.

Oh dear. Just checked in one of the competitions I entered and read through the pass criteria for Round 1. They're eliminating books based on grammar and editing first ... okay, that means I'm out first stage. Wish I knew that before spending all that money entering to begin with :(

I feel like the entire point of the books is lost on you. There are no heroes, even those who want the best for all will fail. Because enough humans will manipulate your teachings and do bad in your name, regardless. Ie all humans are flawed.

This has to be the weird take. You say he was powerless and trapped and then in the same sentence said he didn't try.

The guy saw all potential realities, realised humans are shit and will do bad in his name no matter what he tries, so he decides to take the path that causes the least pain.

Book Review for the Skyship of Truskal: This is the first time reading D.M. Barnham's work, and what a wonderful, refreshing book to have fallen into. A tale riddled with adventure, imaginative worlds, customs and words, and humour. A story about a young girl, Telana, fighting and proving the odds wrong in an all too familiar world ruled by men. Telana's goal is to build a skyship, but the story is about overcoming the setbacks, gaining allies because of her genuine nature, and setting forth on the adventure of her life. And that epilogue...nicely done!

If you like Terry Pratchett then you might like the Skyship of Truskal. It has the odd lol within. Drama, adventure, a cranky kid that grows into themselves.
