Town Planner and Geographer (MRTPI) I used to work at NASA - planning IS harder than rocket science. We can do better.

In this instance, tax em til they bleed is all I can think!
Plus make socially unacceptable to drive child killers.
Not news, really, but nice to see it getting some airtime.

After 2 years of war, 98% of tree cropland and 75% of greenhouses in Gaza have been destroyed. Remote sensing maps tracking the progression of damage can help identify the best ways to remediate the land & rebuild Gazaβs agricultural sector. #AGU25

The grown ups in the room should call this behaviour out. They don't, but shame on them.
03.12.2025 19:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So maybe the official labour statistics and such aren't being published in USA, but i'm guessing evidence and lived experience are begining to tell a story:
"The numbers are rivaling the worst days of the COVID pandemic"

Telegraph knows no shame, but any honest media would be embarassed by this:
02.12.2025 12:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Though over past two days have been in company of some right wingers who are heavily influenced by social media
"the news doesn't tell the true story of the (foreign) grooming gangs" - the foreign/poor people have lots of babies to get benefits narrative is alive and well.
A reminder that the tory two child benefit cap
** required women to prove that a child had been conceived as a result of rape **
if they wished to continue to receive support
(gd luck proving rape in marriage)
Good riddence to another tory ideology dressed up as austerity policy
Isn't that Yorkshire for someone who runs a pub: T'publican?

If we invest in good quality public transport people's wellbeing wouldn't be tied up behind a wheel.
(Auton cars = more traffic, more inequality, more loss of space/safety etc for non-drivers).
Ppl reacting like this is news... It was in geography text books in the 80s/90s!

"Natty DMs" from the mellenial/genZ planners, no doubt.

Obvs some social issues eg US urban redevel cleansing PoC but if Eng didn't keep propping up rubbish old terraces via supply constraint, one cld buy up terraces for redevel.
Time for UK planning objectors to learn the key phrase EMPLOYMENT DENSITY
Forget the usual save the trees arguments
The cost benefit is complicated, but for the space/energy it's not really creating many jobs in the locality (post construction)
Paywalled, but if they are compared with us tax system without mentioning the scale of state/local income tax and municipal tax raising it may be a pointless read (cf public services and burdens )

Also highlights the bonkers approach to private vehicle storage (takes up so much space).
(and whisper it, development is almost exclusively market-lead and Uk planning is reactive.)
20.11.2025 06:56 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Not main issue, but... many times I've been at planning consults speaking to (elderly) objectors; I say how it's hard for young families to get into home ownership only to hear "well its not a problem for us because our kids moved to austrailia/usa/spain/etc" - they are just not seeing it
