I represent a person pro bono suing the Minnesota Sex Offender Program, and I wasn't pro before but the degree of Orwellian nonsense is just unfathomable.

I sometimes think the most radical parenting decision I've ever made was sending my kid to the public schools to which she was assigned. (SPPS.) And I literally didn't have to do anything but NOT fill out a form and our experience has been spectacular.

the voting rights act is, in its entirety, obviously constitutional under the 15th amendment, which gives congress broad and proactive authority to stop racial discrimination in voting. and you know it is obviously constitutional because roberts has had to invent entire new doctrines to gut it.

Listening to @mollycoleman.bsky.social talk reminds me: (1) she’s great and you should definitely vote for her in Ward 4 on the St. Paul City Council; and (2) St. Paul Central debaters really should run everything. β€οΈπŸ–€

I think we can be very clear that Gillibrand has said racist and inexcusable things without suggesting that Franken’s alleged sexual misconduct against at least nine accusers is acceptable.

If there was a better way for the institutional Democratic Party to signal that women are expendable besides this last ditch endorsement of Cuomo nonsense, I can't think of one.

#Juneteenth reminds us: freedom was declared, but not fully delivered. As people of faith, we don’t just commemorate freedomβ€”we fight for the fullness of it.

May this day remind us that true liberation is sacred, ongoing work. πŸ–€βœŠπŸΎ

"We are devastated and heartbroken at the loss of our parents, Melissa and Mark. They were the bright lights at the center of our lives, and we can't believe they are gone. Their love for us was boundless. We miss them so much.
"We want everyone to know that we are both safe and with loved ones. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have received, and we appreciate your respect for our family's privacy as we grieve.
"Our family would like to thank law enforcement for their swift action that saved others and for the coordination across communities that led to the arrest of the man who murdered our parents. We especially would like to thank the officers who were first on the scene to our parents' home and their heroic attempts to rescue our mom and dad.
"Our parents touched so many lives, and they leave behind an incredible legacy of dedication to their community that will live on in us, their friends, their colleagues and co-workers, and every single person who knew and loved them.
"If you would like to honor the memory of Mark and Melissa, please consider the following:
β€’ Plant a tree.
β€’ Visit a local park and make use of their amenities, especially a bike trail.
β€’ Pet a dog. A golden retriever is ideal, but any will do.
β€’ Tell your loved ones a cheesy dad joke and laugh about it.
β€’ Bake something β€” bread for Mark or a cake for Melissa, and share it with someone.
β€’ Try a new hobby and enjoy learning something.
β€’ Stand up for what you believe in, especially if that thing is justice and peace.
"Hope and resilience are the enemy of fear. Our parents lived their lives with immense dedication to their fellow humans. This tragedy must become a moment for us to come together. Hold your loved ones a little closer. Love your neighbors. Treat each other with kindness and respect. The best way to honor our parents' memory is to do something, whether big or small, to make our community just a little better for someone else."

The day started with tragedy with political violence in MN and instead of being scared, neighbors SHOWED UP to stand together at No Kings Twin Cities. We packed the Capitol Mall all the way to the Cathedral. Estimate 80,000+ right now. So proud of our state. #nokings #indivisible

It's hard to understate how important Representative & former Speaker Hortman was to Minnesota politics - she was probably the most prominent woman politician & integral to the recent budget deal. She was also incredibly kind and a real person - Kiernan sold her girl scout cookies. It's horrifying.

And we're done! The Supreme Court's sixth opinion is a DIGβ€”dismissed as improvidently grantedβ€”in Labcorp v. Davis, a major attack on class actions, probably because it is now moot. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

+1. I think there's also an element of the individual v. team competition format where achievement is also linked to doing both--Kiernan dances non-competitively but has done team sports (softball) + team debate (w/ an individual component) + individual competitive dance and you learn drive too.

Right?? There are band camp jokes for a reason. And don't get me started on robotics!! I think people think nerd sports don't count because they're academic but the expense and tracking is definitely there.

As a person who is currently shepherding a 50-kid debate team to various camps from a public school with a wide socioeconomic variance and no slush fund it is hard for me to nod my head in agreement hard enough.

It's not like the parents of a 5th grader who shows an interest in volleyball can all of a sudden create a league and practice schedule that's rigorous enough to increase skills, all the neighborhood/school kids know about it want to play and can pay for it, but is not overwhelming or too much.

The thing you say (anecdotally) about the differences between rec sports and traveling sports is also a real thing -- there's a huge gap and also not much in the middle, and parents are choosing from the options available to them.

Don't spend one minute feeling sorry for the law firms that capitulated. They prioritized their own profits over the rule of law, decency and democracy. They deserve the ridicule and scorn they are now receiving. History will remember them for the cowards they are.
