I had two grant proposals up for review in the NIH Bacterial Virulence (BV) study section. It was canceled without notice this morning.
Without those grants, my lab must close within a year.
And so the purge of scientific research in the US continues

ASM did a spotlight article on me last February and it has also been taken down as βunder reviewβ. Other spotlight articles are still up so not sure how else to interpret this besides the obvious. It feels pretty crappy to have been singled out and I wonβt be engaging with them in the future.

17.01.2025 18:54 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Klebsiella leaves the lung in two distinct patterns, termed "metastatic" and "direct", which are defined by the extent of clonal replication in primary tissues and predict bacterial burden across sites. Oxidative stress from the host and bacterial LPS influences these patterns.
17.01.2025 18:54 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I am excited to announce our latest publication! We teamed up with @khullahalli.bsky.social to barcode Klebsiella and ask basic questions about bacteremia pathogenesis: 1) how are bacteria shared between sites and 2) which host and bacterial factors influence dynamics?
