Dark moorland in the foreground. A small, square tower squats on the edge of the moor, standing out against the background. That background is composed of pale, overlapping lines of hills and woodland, shrouded in mist, that stretch out into the far distance.

Brown Knoll, Derbyshire.

The small tower sits over the air shaft of the Cowburn Railway Tunnel.

South of these moors the Dark Peak meets the White Peak, the hills of which are layered in the background here.

One of the Lewis Chessmen - currently on display at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. Found in 1831 on a beach at Uig on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, the Chessmen dates to the late 12th or early 13th century. 📸 My own. #FindsFriday #LewisChessmen #NMS

😄 We stayed in Porthmadog a couple of times and saw it depart but we never got round to taking a ride on it. Must be one of the most picturesque railway trips you can take in the UK.

Yes, exactly right on both counts. The bridleway splits soon after here - one leg goes SE (in a winding way) to Beddgelert and the other SW to Cwm Pennant below the Nantlle Ridge.

Same here. We'd usually try and visit these sort of places mid-week when we were on leave.

It was a lovely garden. We always meant to go back and see it at a different time of year but then somehow we forgot... 🙄🙂
