The source indicated 1915-20 but I think that’s probably wrong; my educated guess is ’20s-β€˜30s.

I’m doing the same thing, but with my dissertation. (So I shouldn't be on here). I’m going chronologically. It feels more like my actual job, which somehow works β€” you just keep going, doing the thing. You can use your mental effort not for choosing what to do next but actual content questions.

Really sad to hear this. A huge loss for the Canadian history community.

Opinion: Portage Place of old an oasis for music-loving rez girl As the structure surrounding the iconic clocktower at Portage Place came down on Wednesday as part of True North’s plans to redevelop the property, I saw a flurry of social media posts from Indigenous...

Portage Place should never’ve been built, but when I worked there in the 2000s it honestly had some charms & so I was glad to read this piece of personal recollection: β€œPortage Place of old an oasis for music-loving rez girlβ€œ www.winnipegfreepress.com/arts-and-lif...

Family mourns couple struck on side of the road in Winnipeg, man charged with impaired driving A man with a prior conviction for drunk driving is accused of being impaired while behind the wheel in a high-speed collision that killed two people on Kenaston Boulevard Saturday night. Winnipeg Poli...

This is tragic. Beyond the culpability of the drunk driver, it’s also awful & very risky that this stretch of Kenaston has no sidewalk, forcing folks to walk on the shoulder of a road where ppl drive at highway speeds.

Our late 90s Golf was a dream car that supported about a decade of summer camping in the BC Interior & Rockies. Never felt we needed anything bigger.

Have long had a fondness for the late modern renovation of (and addition to) 93 Lombard, an early example of the heritage reuse in the #ExchangeDistrict. Designer was apparently Laszlo Schevelik, a Hungarian refugee (came to Winnipeg afterwards the events of 1956).

Have been meaning to post about this too! This lot is also empty or nearly empty most of the time. It should be reallocated for stalls/kiosks like it was when the park was created.

Late 1950s sketches of the fraternity houses associated with the University of Manitoba by landscape architect Cameron Man. (Most were downtown or West Broadway/Wolseley)

Agreed. I just try to hold by a β€œbetter late than never ethos.” I’d be curious to review his more recent comments about things like the gas tax, carbon tax, etc.

That may be true. I also think ppl’s context can alter them in ways they don’t actively reflect on.

I was torn as I really agree with this piece, but recall his past denialism. I think there’s a place for a piece where he explains how and why he changed his mind on this subject. We should embrace when ppl change, but such a piece might help shift others mind as much or more as this one.

Civic perks weren’t always considered frivolous While this might seem outright luxurious to us today, there was a time in Winnipeg

Unfortunately I’ll be out of town for the launch (31 May at McNally) but am excited to read Michael Durand-Wood’s new book on cities & urban quality of life. www.winnipegfreepress.com/arts-and-lif...

I enjoy the supergraphic quality of Wpg's Wellington School, remodelled in the 70s by IKOY. Time for a return to architecture with colour.
