Normally, I'm the kind of author to write up deep, long, inevitably tragic backstories for all of my characters, and yet, I've never bothered to figure out what the deadnames of any of my trans characters were.

I love the Discworld series. Heads up though, the first two books in the series are veeery different from the rest: more straight satire of then-current swords-and-sorcery tropes. The rest of the books in the series have a more fleshed out world and more social satire.

The people who entered the names were native speakers who knew how to correctly spell the names. Read and understand and then comment, not the other way around.

And this was just the experience of part of my family coming from a small European town with unusual (to Americans) spellings. The situation was far, far worse coming from languages that don't use the Latin alphabet, as @courtneymilan.com has mentioned.

--spelling of the family name, which they kept. No one on the ship or responsible for the journey changed the name. They were native speakers and knew how things should be spelled. These were changed at the port of entry.
