At least Dems got a ceremonial vote on the ACA subsidies in the senate so Susan Collins can vote against her party on that knowing it won’t pass but she’ll be able to run on another vote that allows her to pretend to be a moderate. The deal is an in-kind contribution to Collins.

Why is the "we must be united!" hectoring directed at people who are mad at the Cavers and not to the Cavers? Everyone who's mad was united, then the Cave Caucus walked across the aisle and betrayed what the public had been told was the Dem position.

It’s not that we didn’t want the shutdown to end, it’s the fact that millions of people suffered throughout this shutdown and it was for nothing. That’s the most upsetting part.

Many Americans are hurting right now because of the shutdown, but caving to Republicans won’t end the hurt.

I don't know what the Senate is going to do. But if they do in fact fold in exchange for nothing, they will be living up to past performance. To expect the Senate to carry out the will of the American people is to misunderstand why it was created in the first place.

Lots going on but from outside it seems that at least part of the calculus was that flight disruption for middle class and up travelers matters more than life disruption for untold numbers who’ll be deprived of health care.

The reason people think the Democratic Party doesn't actually stand for anything is because it doesn't.

Where’s the “center” between lawlessness corruption & using our tax dollars to fund programs that we paid into? What’s the compromise position on extrajudicial killings & kidnapping & torture? Can somebody explain it to me like I’m a 6 year old?

We were seeing cracks in the Republicans unity, especially after Tuesday. But if the Opposition Party does not fight against the horrors being inflicted on us by literal jackbooted thugs, then what incentive is there for Republicans to stand up to Trump, Miller, et al and their lawlessness?

How do we keep this momentum going in 2026? Find the courage to stand up to the enforced party wisdom that keeps too many Democrats from telling the whole truth.

Americans can’t afford this deal.

Democrats can fight AND win — just like we did in our budget battle in Michigan.

A promise isn’t a deal. Don’t settle.

If Chris Murphy or other Dem Senator doesn’t immediately challenge Schumer, then they’re all in on it.

The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.

It's not enough to just vote No. If you and the rest of the caucus can't convince a handful of your colleagues to hold the damn line, then none of you are the leaders we need in this moment. I'll be just as happy to protest outside your office. Now do your job!

You weren’t 1 of the 8 Senators promised to the Republicans. So what? You’re still playing your part in the charade. If you & the others who voted no had truly wanted to block this catastrophe, you would have.

This is not what they actually say. This is what they used to say, in the long ago before times when Shaheen learned to do politics. There is no kumbaya median voter anymore. The question you get knocking doors is not "why can't you all just work together?" it's "why didn't / will you fight harder?

This is a bad deal, and the old way of doing things is clearly not working.

We need new leaders in the Senate.
