This is exactly right and I don’t know why PR gets so little attention in the US when:
- It is routinely used outside the US
- Solves the problem perfectly
- Doesn’t need a constitutional amendment (albeit does need levels of political sanity that we probably don’t have currently)

I hear so many complicated β€œsolutions” to how to supposedly fix gerrymandering but PR hardly ever seems to get a mention in the US and I don’t know why! It’s routinely used outside the US and totally solves it in a fair way.

I cringe a bit when I see progressives railing against developers..

We should obviously be careful with regulation of the market but we *need* developers to build. We can’t just be totally dismissing them.

This video unpacks how left-wing NIMBYismβ€”despite its progressive rhetoricβ€”actually worsens housing affordability and access for working people.

Building diverse market-rate housing alongside expanded social housing is essential to meeting the real needs of people in our community!

Love that Worcester DTM has put these up on select crosswalks in the city. Small sample size, but I really think they help! I feel like I’ve had cars stop for me that normally wouldn’t.

The Problem With Left-Wing NIMBYism
YouTube video by Oh The Urbanity! The Problem With Left-Wing NIMBYism

I think this video is a pretty good summary. Also this from the comments is great:

β€œLeft NIMBY: Supply and Demand is a myth.
Right NIMBY: Supply and Demand is real and is my weapon.”

Never thought about it before but this is a great side benefit to having a great bike sharing system: You can get useful objective stats on potential electeds..

Be great if the bus/subway gave similar stats..

It’s so confusing though! parked cars in the middle of the road!

Am I supposed to drive in the space or into the parked cars???

Loove the new parking protected bike lane on Main st in cambridge between Kendall and Central sq.

Much better than the dangerous door zone lane they had before.

Really feels like a missing piece of the puzzle has been filled in!

Great job Cambridge! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Utterly repulsive story.

Charge the city planners and state DoT with involuntary manslaughter and pardon those poor parents. Just awful.

This isn’t solving any problems. The problem is a lack of supply for the demand we have.

This will absolutely help people renting now but if you ever need to move you won’t get a rent stabilized apartment, you’ll be stuck competing for exempted apartments at very high prices.

06.08.2025 11:02 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Regardless of what you think of rent control, why is the proposed policy for MA inflation or 5% whichever is lower?

More reasonable stabilization policies are inflation plus x% without a cap.

This is going to create a ratchet effect reducing rents while expenses increase and you’ll get wrecks.

Hard to remember that all these US deals are being done to avert tariffs the vast majority of which the US Court of International Trade has ruled illegal.

100% baked in international assumption that either a supine Supreme Court lets him do whatever, he finds a loophole, or he ignores the ruling.

On the TGV in France listening to a Belgian and Australian couple talk about the downfall of America.

Embarrassing.

Walking is really, really, really good for you.

Conclusion of a new meta-analysis that reviewed 57 studies on walking & health:
"Compared with 2,000 steps per day, 7,000 steps per day was associated with a 47% lower risk of all-cause mortality."

It’s almost certainly time to expand the court if/when democrats gain power again but if SCOTUS undoes birthright citizenship it’ll DEFINITELY be that time.

Basically everyone’s experience once you try not using a car in a place that chooses to accommodate such options.

If this happens it’s definitely time to pack the court.

The problem is that as the article points out, investment decisions are made over decade long timeframes and a new President in 2029 may well change the tariffs, especially if it's a Democrat.

Hell, someone might whisper sweet nothings in Trumps ear and he might change it in a week on a whim too.

iirc I think this Is a β€œcars are guest” road..

The road is very thin due to the old buildings going right up to the edge so it looks quite intimidating for pedestrians so I think they put those markings down to indicate β€œyes you can walk here”.. That’s a guess tho

Oh wow! I didn’t know we had something like this in Worcester.

This picture I posted is in France (I’m visiting family).

This area in general is pretty great (lots of β€œzones piΓ©tonnes”, modal filters, great infra in general) which is why I was surprised to see this..

Does anyone know how/why there are some items that get held indefinitely for Worcester city council and end up at the end of every agenda but never get addressed?
