In the case of Nakamichi-doori, many of the best shops are run by young people. As old ones shut down, young people move in with fresh ideas. A big factor is that most of the landlords charge reasonable rents. Not sure what will happen when a new generation of landlords takes over, but am hopeful.

Kichijoji's Sun Road, prob. named for being a 参道 of the nearby temple, is also owned by the temple and used to have many unique shops. Then the temple raised the rent sharply, forcing those shop out of business. They were replaced by mostly chain stores. Nakamichi does not have that problem (yet).

Kichijoji has several, with Nakamichi-doori the most interesting. It has a constant draw of Chinese and other inbound tourists.

We had a Dyson vacuum that had power cord problems, sent it back for fixing, and the same problem developed again. We also had a Dyson hairdryer that developed such a problem so that the cord became too hot to touch. No more Dysons for us.
