Here is Ishiba testifying before a Diet committee this morning that Trump is not an ordinary person who plays by the rules. Why am I not seeing more of this in the news? Seems like a big deal.
04.08.2025 06:06 โ ๐ 10 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 2Musashino, Tokyo. Took out the trash and did some street cleanup. It was unbearably hot. No other people or even birds in sight. Over the next few days, it will get hotter still, perhaps breaking local records. Outdoor activities will need to be sharply curtailed or rescheduled. Take care, people!

Good story. I don't think I've had any great sports accomplishments since finishing third in a city-wide high jump contest in junior high. It's been downhill from that low bar [sic] ever since.

It reminds me of my upbringing in a Dutch Reformed church, where even slight differences in theological thinking were considered heretical and reasons for expulsion or splintering into new sects.

26.07.2025 08:15 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0In the case of Nakamichi-doori, many of the best shops are run by young people. As old ones shut down, young people move in with fresh ideas. A big factor is that most of the landlords charge reasonable rents. Not sure what will happen when a new generation of landlords takes over, but am hopeful.
26.07.2025 08:05 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Kichijoji's Sun Road, prob. named for being a ๅ้ of the nearby temple, is also owned by the temple and used to have many unique shops. Then the temple raised the rent sharply, forcing those shop out of business. They were replaced by mostly chain stores. Nakamichi does not have that problem (yet).
26.07.2025 05:40 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Kichijoji has several, with Nakamichi-doori the most interesting. It has a constant draw of Chinese and other inbound tourists.
26.07.2025 05:31 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I have seen crows do so many amazing things over the years, like "growling" at a cat just like a dog, stealing a rough-sleeping man's sandal and then dropping it on him from high in a tree, and taunting our dog with some food just out of reach. Mean, but they do lovable things as well.

We had a Dyson vacuum that had power cord problems, sent it back for fixing, and the same problem developed again. We also had a Dyson hairdryer that developed such a problem so that the cord became too hot to touch. No more Dysons for us.
