I recommend trying to be zen about the physical changes. They will be less & more than you expect, with the subtle fat/muscle changes doing a LOT of work.

I guess that largely depends on how you define "happy".
Just one of my cats has expressed more varieties of happy in his 9 years than I have witnessed from some humans I know.

Our boy Goblin likes to climb onto your chest, knead your collar bone, put his face in your face & demand nose-to-tail full body surface pets.
Periodically he tries to bite your face & nose during this process, but you can disrupt it by kissing his nose if you are fast enough.
